The bright red door loomed in front of me. I could see the tension and fear surrounding the others, but I didn't share that fear. I wasn't scared. Or rather, I wouldn't *allow* myself to be scared. Facing death was nothing new to me, and I wouldn't allow this situation, no matter how peculiar it was, to break down my walls and make me experience that fear again.
There was a small room beyond the door. Straight across from me there was a door that looked like something you'd find on an old-fashioned elevator. So this trial is taking place underground, huh? ...Well at least it's not high up. That would be horrible.
Everyone except Makoto was there. A few minutes later, the Lucky Student arrived.
"You're late, Makoto! We've all been waiting for you!" Taka yelled.
"Hmph. I bet y-you were afraid you would be discovered as th-the murderer you are..."
"Let's not jump to conclusions just yet" Save that for the class trial!" Taka reprimanded Toko. Wouldn't it be better to just not jump to conclusions at all?
"There we can all reveal the details of Makoto's crime!"
Makoto ignored them, appearing lost in his own thoughts.
"Puhuhu...Is everyone here? Okay then...Please board the elevator in front of you, which will transport you to the courtroom...where all your fates will be decided. Puhu. I'll meet you all down there. I'll be waiting..."
One by one, everyone stepped into the elevator.
"Let us begin..."
"Good idea."
Only Makoto, Kyoko and I were left.
"..."
"Are you scared?"Kyoko asked.
"N-No, scared isn't quite right..."
"Apprehensive, perhaps," I offered. "You know that you're innocent, but you don't know how to prove that to the others."
"Yeah..."
"I said it before, but it's up to you to uncover the mysteries surrounding this case yourself. If you don't, you'll never come to grips with the truth." Kyoko walked off.
"It will be fine," I reassured him. "Probably."
"Probably?"
"I'm fairly sure I know what happened, but...they're all just scared of death, so they're taking the easy route and accusing you. The only way to refute that accusation born from fear is with a completely undeniable truth." I followed the others into the elevator.
Makoto tried to encourage himself, then stepped onto the elevator. The doors closed behind him, and it rattled into motion.
"I wonder if this is how a death row inmate feels when his time finally comes..." I wouldn't know about that specifically, but this does feel a little like those times I almost got arrested.
"Rather than that, is it not more like a defendant waiting to receive judgement?" Celeste responded.
"Stop trying to compare this to real world things. This is unlike anything we have ever done, and should be treated as such."
When we finally arrived at the courtroom, I looked around and noticed a few things:
1. There were 17 seats instead of 16.
2. There were pictures of Junko and Sayaka with crosses on them.
3. Monokuma has really bad taste. In both interior design and his choices of entertainment.
