We hurried to the dressing room. As we approached, Kyoko turned to look at us and spoke.
"I'm going to go on alone from here. Everyone else head to the dining hall. I'll check in with you later."
"Why, exactly, are you going alone?" Byakuya demanded.
"Do you even have to ask?" She glanced quickly at the surveillance camera.
"That's not what I mean. Why *you*? There's still the risk of a spy, you know." My sister's only response was silence.
"Then I'll go, too," Makoto offered.
"You...?"
"Fair enough. Makoto's probably the most trustworthy person here. Speaking of which, Makoto, can I talk to you later?" I asked.
"Huh? Sure..."
Byakuya acquiesced, and we returned to the dining hall. I was reluctant to talk to any of them, so I returned to the dorms and hung around outside my room, waiting for my two tentative allies to return.
Makoto looked in thought, and somewhat surprised. Presumably Kyoko had told him something he didn't know. My sister glanced at me once, then entered her room.
"Yo, Makoto."
"Ryousuke, you said you wanted to talk to me...?"
I nodded and held open my door. The brunette walked in.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Makoto, I want your honest opinion about what Byakuya said."
"You mean about there being a traitor?"
"Yes. Who do you think it is?"
"There doesn't have to be a traitor at all! I don't believe anyone would willingly work for the mastermind!"
"Who said anything about willingly? They could have been blackmailed or threatened-something like that. Or it could have been a choice. I don't know. Then...what about Kyoko?"
"I can understand why people would suspect her, but...She's not the mastermind's spy! I know it!" There was a fire in the boy's eyes. He truly believed what he was saying. It was...interesting, to say the least.
I changed by stance, leaning against the door and taking my hands out of my pockets. "You can;t prove that."
"No, but-"
"It's fine. I don't suspect Kyoko either. Although, she probably thinks I'm the traitor. I'm not, but...well, it's probably my fault that she suspects me in the first place. I may have acted untrustworthy. Anyway, enough about the traitor. What did Kyoko tell you?"
"Huh? How did you know about that?"
"So she *did* tell you something important. Thanks for confirming that. What is it?"
"I can't tell you...sorry..."
"Is that because of the cameras, or because Kyoko told you not to tell me?" I assumed his silence meant that it was both. "Whatever. If it's important, I'll find out anyway. Good night, Makoto."
"Right...Good night, Ryousuke..." Makoto left, looking somewhat uneasy. So he trusts me...? That's new...I think accusing me of being the traitor would be a more accurate evaluation of my character...
I stayed in my room for ten more minutes, before moving silently outside. As I suspected, Makoto left his room and headed towards the stairwell. It was lucky his room was closer to the stairs than mine was, otherwise he would have walked straight past me.
