My name is Ryousuke Kirigiri. How long has it been since I used that name? I was around 7, so a long time. I now go by the name Ryousuke Takeoka. I'm the Ultimate Criminal.
The title is pretty ironic, actually. I come from a family of detectives. So why are you a criminal? Is that what you want to ask? Even if you don't, I should probably tell you. My past...the reason I am who I am today...is you're to understand why I act the way I do I guess that's important.
Not all of my family are detectives. My father wasn't interested in the profession, so he was kicked out of the family before I was born. He married my mother sometime afterwards and had me and my twin sister, Kyoko Kirigiri. When our grandfather, Fuhito Kirigiri, learned of our existence he invited our father back into the family in order to make us his heirs. Fuhito trained us to be detectives. When Kyoko and I were 7, our mother was sent to hospital since she was ill. We were abroad at the time.
That bastard Fuhito refused to let me or Kyoko visit our mother. Because apparently detective work is more important than family. I was pissed off at that, and had a major fight with Fuhito. I ran out and didn't returned.
From there on I struggled to make a living on the streets of America. I used my knowledge of the way detectives work to my advantage, committing minor crimes to survive. Eventually I was picked up by a gang. I quickly rose to the top.
When I was 14 I returned to Japan and continued my work there. I searched for my father and sister. At this point, my sister was a successful, fully qualified detective. I didn't want her to see how far I'd fallen, so I kept my distance and didn't let them know I was still alive.
I gained a reputation in Japan and became known as 'The Shadow', the faceless criminal who'd stolen millions from the biggest banks in the country. My name was treated the same as Genocide Jack or other such criminals.
And then I received a letter from Hope's Peak Academy. Hope's Peak Academy, the best school in Japan that only accepted the most talented of students. A school that somehow knew my identity. Oh, and did I mention my father was the fucking principal?
I decided to accept. Hope's Peak Academy was a way for me to atone for my past crimes and become a better person, and maybe even join my family again.
It was because of this that I stood in front of the most prestigious school in the country. I ran my hand through my dark purple hair and cleared my mind of any worry. I'll tell them my name is Ryousuke Takeoka, and avoid the subject of my talent as much as possible. I can't imagine my classmates will like very much if I tell them I'm the Ultimate Criminal.
I smiled slightly, a rarity for me, and took a step towards the future. It was then that everything warped, then faded to black.
I awoke in a classroom, or at least what appeared to be a classroom. There were 16 empty desks, plus the one I was sitting at, which meant it was a class set up for 17 people. There was a security camera in the corner and metal plates on the windows. I didn't see those from the outside when I walked in. Either these windows don't face the front of the school or the plates were screwed on while I was unconscious.
I looked at the clock above the blackboard. It was a few minutes before 8. I entered the school at 7:30 am. If it was the same day, then I had been unconscious for either half an hour or 12 and a half hours, depending on whether it was 8 am or 8 pm. I didn't feel hungry, so it was more likely 8 am.
Satisfied with my conclusions, I looked around the classroom once more. There was a pamphlet lying on the desk I had woken up. The next semester is about to start. Starting today, this school will be your entire world.
