Nightmare looked at how easy it was for his brother. 'What was it he had that I don't?' he asked himself while looking over at his brother. 'I know ... positivity' The words sounded like venom in Nightmares mind. Dream was smiling and talking away with some humans at the base of the hill. He talked with them like nothing happened, that what they did and have been doing for quite a while was justified. Nightmare knew well that his brother had seen the way they treated him. Still he spoke, smiled and laugh with them. Never trying to help his brother more than to be a shoulder to cry on.
Nightmare stood at the top of the hill and watched the scene in front of him. the shadows of the threes help to hide him a little. It didn't seem like anyone had noticed him. some may, but they probably pretended he didn't exist. Tears began to form in the corner of his eyes while he felt anger boiling inside him. he clutched the book he was holding and pulled it closer toward his chest as he turned his head away from the scene in front of him. Still listening inn on the conversation.
His anger didn't disappear when he heard what some of them said. hands in fists and the want to hit anything, anyone. Feeling like he couldn't take it anymore made him just turn his back and disappear as fast he could into the forest before anything went sour. more sour than it already is.
Nightmare grumbled to himself as he went further and further into the forest. He had punched a tree a little while ago to get his anger out. it hurt his hand which fueled his frustration, but thankfully there was no anger left for now. Right now he was just walking for no reason. Only looking at the dirt below and when he finally lifted his head made him realize he had no ideas where he was. this only made him more frustrated while he kicked a pine cone to get out a little bit of steam. His brother will probably worry when he realize how long he has been gone and go look for him, so Nightmare wasn't scared to be lost forever in this labyrinth of trees.
All he had to do now was to sit down and play the waiting game. poking at the dirt with his shoes while listening to the forest sounds. birds were singing, the wind were slowly going through the leaves, some cricket were relaxing not long away from him and the distant sound of a small river. Nightmare closed his eyes while all his frustration disappeared. He always liked the forest. he feels more accepted her. A sudden noise made him break his trance and focus on what the source was. Listening closer made him realize someone was crying.
Nightmare knew he had to been wanderer quiet deep into the forest, so it made him wonder who could be crying. Not being the most confrontational guy made him want to ignore it, or head back form where he came from, but on the other hand was his curiosity that kept nagging him on. one cheek on what or who was crying wouldn't hurt him, they probably wouldn't know he was there.
Getting up he began to slowly make himself toward the crying. he had been thinking it may have been a traps so they would laugh at him or have a reason to attack him because he was made of negative emotions, but It still could be someone who was actually hurt. not that he would care if someone was hurt. this fact only made him speed up a little. forgetting his worries. After walking a minute or two made him stop at a small clearing. it was here the crying came from.
scanning him made him see the little stream he had earlier running down out from some rock, some flowers, green grass, some berry bushes near the forest and then he finally spotted what he was looking for. Leaning up against a tree at the start of the clearing was the source of the crying. Nightmare tried to get a better look at them. walking a step closer made him realize how close he was the edge of the hill he was standing on and he was sent tumbling down. it wasn't a long fall, but it still made him attract the unwanted attention of the crying person that let out a squeak of surprise as he fell.
This was not the plan. Nightmare felt flustered as he just kept laying face first in the dirt. He wanted to disappear, to not let his stupid curiosity lead him. He would probably be laughed at by this. neither said anything. the crying had gotten down to a occasionally sniffle that told Nightmare they had not left yet. he felt the ground vibrate as someone came walking toward him. Eyes were squeezed shut and body freezing up and waiting for the teasing of his fall. "I believe th-this is yours?"
A soft voice broke the silent and made Nightmare jolted and quickly look up at the source of the voice. Looking up made him look into two puffy red eyes and tear stained face of a female human. In their hand was his book. they gave him a look he had seen many times. worry. humans often gave him a worry look because they were worried of what he might do. worried he might hurt a child or steal someone's happiness. stupid thoughts. however, there was something different with the worry in her gaze. might he say it was caring. she did know who he was. There was something intriguing about her, he had this need to know her better. so he did something he would probably never believe. he took the book, thanked her and stayed.
