Rainy day

Nightmare were seated next to his brother below the tree of feelings and reading. Just relaxing and talking together. Quietly reading a book he borrow from y/n while his brother were cheerfully talking away. He loved being out with his friend from days on end, but still made time to be with his brother. Dream was his only family, and y/n was his only friend. It was easy to take of time for both.

Dream had stop his little story and looked out and took in the view. a frown came up on his face that didn't come unnoticed from his older brother. "There's some grey clouds up in the horizon. it seems like it will rain today." Nightmare looked fully up from his book to see the clouds himself. up toward some near mountains were some grey clouds forming. they seemed to be coming their direction, albeit slowly. they would probably hit toward nighttime, if they came at all. "Don't worry about them", Nightmare got up to stand next to his brother, a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "If they do come over, I believe that it will only rain. not need to worry about lightning."

He let go of his brother before making his way toward the forest. "Leaving again today?" his younger brothers voice came behind him. Still nervousness from the ideas of a storm coming this way. Nightmare turned fully to give his brother his full attention "Don't worry, I won't be for long. I will be back before the clouds can hit." Then he disappeared into the forest.

Walking along the familiar path usually made Nightmare relax, but there was a small negative thought he couldn't place where came from, nagging at the back of his head. He felt a little bad that he left his brother worrying about the storm like that. Dream never liked thunder and lightning, so Nightmare believe leaving his brother behind for a while was the source of the negative thought.

He made it through the familiar little clearing and crossed the small river. The two of them had arranged to meet at the top of the hill this time. Apparently there was some kind of nature phenomenon y/n wanted to see, and decided the hill would be the best spot to see it. The forest was lonely without you. It was a little bit to quiet for his liking, everything without you was too quiet for him. Nightmare seem to be craving you more and more for each passing day. A goodbye too far away from the next hello. he could feel himself speeding up.

Huffing a little when he finally made it to the top he couldn't help but listen. something wasn't quite right. He heard y/n, sounding quite annoyed and anxious, talking to someone. Listening closer made him realize there were multiple voices, around three people talking. Something didn't sit right with the tone they used. They spoke in a light tone, but there was a dark undertone to it. Nightmare could feel your distress and didn't think twice before running into the building.

Getting inside he immediately looked eyes on y/n. She looked like a prey being sized up by the predator. Fight or flight instinct activated and waiter for her to run or stand her ground. scanning the room made him see that there were three people inside. He knew exactly who these people were. Some bad days he held her close while she was shaking and there's falling from what they did to her. He was still a little grateful toward these bullies, without them you wouldn't be in the woods that faithful day.

"Night...Nightmare?" she sounded shocked, voice shaking. The words were nearly just mouthed out, but it made the intruders turned around towards him. Their gaze held for a few second, she looked apologizing. that she felt it was her fault the bullies followed her. His eyes were mild when they looked at her, quickly changing to something colder than ice when they landed on the treats.

"Look, look! Freaks really stick together!" the only girl of the trio excitedly pronounced with a voice more annoying and high pitched than nails on a chalkboard. "Of course she's always fucking depressed if this is the guy she clings to" a gruff wolf monster said. his piercing brown eyes scanned over nightmare. he was big and could probably easily break bones if he wanted to. the this and last guy only snickers. his body was the only one that didn't turn to the newcomer, only his icy eyes that rivals Nightmares glare.

"I knew you had low standard y/n, but I would never believe you would stoop this low." His smile widened as he studied Nightmare. Y/n sank a little bit, trying to make them self as small as they possibly could. "You two fit, one more pathetic than the other. I don't know whats funnier. You getting attached to him because he's a guardian, what you thought this weakling could protect. Or him getting attached to the first person that pretends to show him kindness. Or are you just to kind that you don't see the danger and get yourself killed in the end." He took a steady step toward her, making them quieter more than they already were.

Nightmare didn't like this, he didn't like this at all. seeing her so afraid and weak. He didn't think, action revolved around instinct. Moving to fast for the two henchman to stop him. his hand moved fast forward and connected. the impact made the leader fall down on the hard floor. landing on some stones and broken planks. Nightmare didn't hesitate as he stooped down after and began hitting him over and over again. not giving him time to react back. Anger, fear and hate all mixed together with adrenaline was a dangerous mix.

The girl let out a shocked shriek while the monster took a grip around Nightmare to pry him off. Someone tried to the over and help but got kicked by the leader. Everyone froze as y/n stubble back after getting hit in the face. too far of that goddamn edge Nightmare newer liked. Stones and dirt crumble under her. everything froze around Nightmare as she slowly fell over the cliff. There was nothing he could do. The bullies had scatter away, but the time they scatter were unknown. Not even knowing when the rain had began. He didn't know how long he sat there. Only thing clear to him was that he was alone again.
