Louis: He continued to be in denial about his gambling addiction. Any time you even thought about bringing it up he would shoot you down. “I don’t have a problem, babe. It’s just a little harmless betting.” And sure, a lot of the time he was good at it; he bet on the right things and he was good at cards, so he usually made money instead of losing it. And then things got tougher. You were already very concerned about him but when he began to place bigger bets, getting cockier with his winning streak and pockets full of money, he lost once. It devastated him and put him out of $10,000. That knocked his ego down one notch but he didn’t stop and you didn’t know what to do because that winning streak quickly vanished, leaving him depressed and unmoving from bed. Which was good for his bank account but bad for his health. It was when you finally got him out of bed that he admitted that he might have a problem and he needed help.

Zayn: “That’s not mine. It’s Ant’s and I’m trying to get him to stop.” Judging by the look in his eyes, it was all a lie. “I know it’s yours, and I think you need help, Zayn.” He shook his head and you watched his fingers twitch against his thigh. “No I don’t. Just - Just give it here and leave me alone, yeah?” The packet was torn from your fingers and he was out the door before you could blink. Over the next few weeks the two of you barely spoke and then he was gone on tour and you couldn’t keep an eye on him though you begged Harry to. It was three weeks into their European your when your phone rang in the middle of the night, Harry’s name and photo showing up on the screen. “It’s about Zayn. He’s in the hospital; he nearly overdosed.” You don’t know how you did it, but you bought a ticket on the next flight to wherever they were. Zayn was unconscious in the hospital bed and it wasn’t until he woke up three days later and saw the panic in your eyes that he admitted his problem.

Liam: The problem didn’t go away and it just created even more problems for your relationship because you were constantly arguing about it. In an effort to get him to stop, you did a maybe stupid thing by going out on a day where he wasn’t (for once) and you got as close to blackout drunk as you could without actually blacking out. He was at home when you stumbled in at a little after 2 am, giggling at your own thoughts. Liam was shocked at your level of intoxication it he helped you up to bed so you didn’t fall and break anything on the way there. “Why did you do this?” He asked as he crawled into bed beside you, letting you tuck yourself around him slowly. “Because this is what you’re like all the time. I wanted to see if it made life easier or what made you want to be drunk all the time, Liam.” As you fell asleep right then, he ran his fingers through your hair, and thought about your words. He didn’t think that he really had that big of a problem but now that it was mentioned when he had a sober mind, it made sense to him that it was his alcoholism that was damaging this relationship between the two of you and he vowed silently to go seek help.

Harry: Since he wouldn’t listen, you decided to go confront Mark about him allowing this. “Can’t you see he’s overexerting himself? Everyday he comes home exhausted and he’s been vomiting every morning for the past week. I know that you’re a trainer and stuff, Mark, but don’t you think that that’s pushing it too far?” Mark wasn’t really sure what to say but finally he admitted to you that he only saw Harry twice a week and he made sure to keep him at the level of exercise that was best for him. So not only was Harry exercising too much, but he was lying to you about it too. The next day when he went to leave for “training with Mark” you followed him. He didn’t go to Mark’s training center, but to a completely different gym. You watched as he ran laps and went to weights and then jumped rope for a while and ran some more, swam a few laps. He went in circles around that gym, stopping to do almost every activity that was offered. You stepped in front of him as he was leaving, startling him enough that he actually stopped. “This isn’t safe, Harry. You’re going to seriously hurt yourself without following Mark’s training instructions.” And he didn’t want to admit defeat but his bones were aching and his body felt stretched thin. There was no more of that pleasure that he’d once felt from all of this activity.

Niall: You wouldn’t say it’s disgusting because lots of people do watch porn, but Niall was doing it religiously. On a daily basis, sometimes more than once. You’d tried to get him to stop by acting out some of the things that you’d seen in the titles that show up in his browser history. He still watched it and you began to think that maybe it was you and he was just using you as a substitute for his hand. “I think we should break up.” You told him one day when he tried to pretend that he hadn’t been watching it. That froze him in his tracks. “Why?” So you sat him down to explain how his constant porn watching left you feeling inadequate like you couldn’t satisfy him and like he was looking for someone else. “No. I promise that’s not what it is. I love you so much you’re much more to me than just- No, okay? I’m not letting this end. I’ll do anything to keep loving you.” In the next five minutes, he’d agreed to stop doing it.
