The events that lead to their destruction had a slow-burn process. Human beings with special abilities started to pop up everywhere. No one knows how they came to be, or even why. All they knew for sure was that some of them could cause a lot of chaos. "Elementalists" were what the ordinary people called them. The name spread and soon stuck. The Elementalists were a peaceful part of the community for the longest time. They tended to mind their own business and help out where they could, like most Normals did, except they had powers to help them boost their physical and mental abilities. Life was still the same, despite the extraordinary people dwelling among them.

Until the day everything changed.

No one knows why the man did it. The only thing known for sure is that on that one foggy September morning, a twenty-seven year old man was found smashing a seventy-nine year old woman with a large garbage bin repeatedly, despite the fact that life had already drained from her mutilated corpse. The bin was obviously heavier and larger than ones that the average human can carry. This was the first time in the history of their existence that an Elementalist had attacked a Normal and killed them.

Of course, after the suspect had been arrested, he committed suicide in jail. If not to escape the obvious death row that awaited him, it was to escape the guilt that would've haunted him his whole life.

Tensions rose between Elementalist and Normals after this event. Lines were drawn and feelings of resentment swelled. Soon, the human race split into two separate divisions: the Elementalists and the Normals.

Segregation came next. Elementalists weren't allowed to be in Normal's schools, shops, parks, buildings, etc. They were forced to make their own buildings on a more dingy side of town. They were often scorned and ridiculed in public if they were recognized, some people even going as far as to beating them for simply walking by.

But it only grew worse from there.

Soon, some of the Elementalists grew sick of the injustice that they were suffering and decided to take matters into their own hands. They set up groups and factions, whose main purpose was to overthrow the "Normal Supremacist" movement. They used their aptitudes to wreak havoc on the Normal's society. They burned down schools and bridges. They drowned out neighborhoods. They crushed entire communities, all in the name of their freedom.

But they were only adding fuel to an ever-growing flame.

The Normals snapped back in response, saying that the Elementalists were dangerous, too deadly to keep around. They were a threat to their entire lives. So they made a choice that no one expected: Genocide

The Elementalists were hunted down like dogs. Bounties were put upon their heads and government officials and citizens alike tracked them down, brutally murdering them on sight. Innocent men, women and children with supernatural abilities were slaughtered. For months this tragedy stretched on, until there was no Elementalist left.

Or so they thought.

The ones who barely managed to escape fled. They ran to new lands, found new identities, and started new lives. Most of the Elementalists who were parents thought it was best to separate themselves from their children, in fear of having their new abilities draw too much attention to them, thus resulting in the orphan population skyrocketing. Now, the majority of the Elementalists are dead, being hunted down, or in hiding. And they intend to stay that way, until the time renders them nothing but a memory.
