"Hey, I want to ask you something." I say while eating the delicious chicken.
"What?" he asks as he drinks his glass of champagne.
"What happened with Liam's sister?" I say and I can see him clenching his jaw as he puts the glass down.
"What do you mean?" he says casually, not even the slightest hint of emotion is plastered on his face.
"You guys were dating, right?" I ask.
"Who told you?" he asks, with a different tone.
"Liam." I say.
"Look, I don't want to talk about it." he says as he gets up and leaves the table.
"Wait." I say but he ignores me and he walks towards the waterfall. I get up as well as I try to follow him.
"Hey..I'm sorry." I say once I'm near him. However, he doesn't reply as he stays silent. He is sitting on one of the biggest rocks as he seems to be lost in his own world. His mood is off and I'm sad that I'm the one who caused it.
I stand near him and I feel the breeze of the calm wind. The smooth water is flowing like syrup and some frogs are croaking nearby as well. To add, the sunset is very beautiful from here and it is reflecting on the water
It looks so peaceful and amazing."She was my first girlfriend." Suddenly Zac says and I look at him.
"Oh.." I say. "It's okay if you don't-" I get interrupted as he says,
"We first met when I was going home after practices. I was walking down the streets when suddenly I saw some dudes troubling her." he says.
"You beat them?" I ask and he shakes him head. What? It doesn't feel like him.
"I was gentle before. Anyway, those dudes ran away soon after I threatened them and then I asked her if she was okay. She looked at me with those blue eyes which immediately melted inside of me. She was the most gorgeous girl that I had ever seen." he says leaving me kind of jealous. I mean, I know it's in the past but still.. I don't want to know more but still my curiousness is growing bigger.
"Then?" I ask, mood quite off.
"She didn't come to the same school, so I would always see her coming to the coffee shop where I used to work, after school. She would always bring her friends along with her and they would always stare at me while giggling and teasing her. So then, one month later, she told me that she liked me and wanted to date me. I was kind of happy as I had a little crush on her. Then we began dating and everything was perfect. She had a very sweet personality and she was always gentle. She was the perfect girlfriend in my eyes. She would always laugh at my silly comments, she really liked to hug me and we would spent most of our times together. However some months later, due to practices, I no longer had time for her everyday then one day, I noticed that she had started to distance herself from me. At first, I thought that maybe she needed some space but gradually the distance grew up and then I decided that I had to talk to her. So, I went to her place but Tina wasn't at home."
"Her name was Tina?" I ask and he nods.
"Yeah, so I thought of talking to her on another day. The days passed and she would occasionally text me, saying that she missed me ect... One day, I had a big match and I told her to come to support me. She came, looking very beautiful indeed, in her red dress. All eyes were on her and I was proud indeed. The match ended and our team won but..." he says with clenched fists.
"What??" I ask, impatiently.
" I saw her making out with another guy from the opposite team and at that moment my heart clenched and I felt it breaking into tiny pieces." he says with a heartbreaking tone and I start feeling bad for him.
"Oh.." I say, sadly. He continues as he says,
"She had seen me obviously and she started running after me. I was so angry that I went down the streets. But she had followed me and kept asking me to forgive her. I told her that I didn't want to be in a relationship with her anymore and I left her there, while crossing the road, moving far away from her. She kept calling my name as she was coming towards me but then after that I heard a bus honking and then the next thing I know was her, screaming her life till she died on the spot." Zac says, as he jumps off from the rock as he stands in front of me. "I couldn't do anything." He says, with gritted teeth.
"It was on the 23rd of March 2016."Oh my god. This is so terrible. I feel so shocked right now. I didn't expect this coming at all. I immediately feel bad for someone who lost his mother at an early age and now he lost his girlfriend. No wonder, he tattoed a 23.03.16 on his chest. It was all about Tina..
".. I'm sorry.." I say while hugging him tightly.
"I'm a criminal." he says as he looks down.
"No! You are not!" I say as he smile sadly. "Look at me, Zac!" I say as I grab his face, "Don't you dare blame yourself for that! You understand?? You didn't kill her." I say while looking into his eyes.
"No.. I did it, Scarlette. IT WAS ME!" He exclaims while clenching his fists.
"Hey. It wasn't you! Okay?? You are not to be blamed. It was her own choice to run after you, after she did this to you. It was just a mishap!" I say, while clenching my jaw.
"But-"
"No buts! Don't you dare take this blame on you." I hug him again and he responds by hugging me back. We stay like this for sometimes and then soon he says,
"Thank you, Scarlette."
"I love you, Zac." I find myself confessing without realising.
