I busted into home group as soon as the starting school bell went, people stared at me as if I was an alien, all except one. The girls called him the hottest guy in school, but I called him my best friend. The one and only Kellin Quinn, in this school, he wasn't known as the lead singer of Sleeping With Sirens, shamefully, I was the only person at school that knows the band. There are others around the town, but they don't think much of Kellin.
"Kitty Kat! What's cracka lackin'?" He asks, leaning back on his chair dangerously. I roll my eyes and slide into the seat next to him, placing my books neatly on the table, along with my vocal machine. Kellin grabs it an inspects it, he places it to his throat.
"Luke, I am your father." He says. I smile at him.
"Very attractive." I mouth. Kellin ruffles my hair and I slap his arm. I waggle my index finger at him and he starts laughing.
"You would have to be one of the funniest people I know." He says, pulling on a curl, which bounced straight back up.
"Kaitlyn Atkins?" The home group teacher called, raising an eyebrow. I wave my hand frantically, in hope she'll see it. She nods and scrawls something down, beginning to call the rest of the roll. Kellin places the vocal machine back on my desk carefully, making sure it doesn't roll off. I turned and most of the girls were drooling over him. He wore a checkered long sleeved shirt, open over a grey T-shirt. He had his black Vans resting on the desk as he rocked back on his chair. The bell went and scared Kellin, the chair slide out from beneath him and he landed on his ass. I burst out laughing, sort of, Kellin stuck his tongue out at me.
"Yeah, real funny." He grumbles, rubbing his sore posterior.
The final bell for school rings and I run back to my locker before the onslaught of students come. I grab my Penny Board and slam my locker shut, putting my bag on my back as I roll effortlessly down the corridor.
"Kat! Wait for me!" Kellin calls, chasing after me like a mad man. I soundlessly laugh and stop, waiting for the ridiculously slow friend of mine. He leans over placing his hands on his knees and begins to huff and puff. His phone rings and he frowns at the caller I.D.
"What's wrong?" I mouth. Kellin shakes his head and walks towards a corner.
"I'll tell you later, you head over to my place." Kellin says, he sounded upset, but I decided to leave it. I exit through the school double doors and jump off the stairs, landing skillfully on the small Penny Board. I head straight to Kellin's house, not taking any detours. I text dad and tell him I wasn't coming straight home and he sent a Smiley face back. I arrived at Kellin's house, it was like one of those houses you see in movies were they live in cute little neighbourhoods. It had a white picket fence and a carefully tamed garden. I walked up the stone footpath through the garden and rang the doorbell. Kellin's dad answered almost immediately. I wave and his dad smiles back.
"You have a key, I don't understand why you don't use it." His dad says, I shrug and head inside. I immediately go across the lounge room and into Kellin's room. I open his bedroom door and I'm greeted by clothes strewn across the floor and his bed quilts in a bunched up mess. I smile, this was like my second home. I sat at the desk, his computer off, I switch it on and the background is of my and him, the day we went to the fair. We both had ice-cream on our noses and the biggest smiles on our face. That was before the teasing started, now I was happy, but not as happy as I wished I was. Kellin's mum brought up a salad for me to eat, she was like my mum, and I loved her for that.
"Hi sweetie, how are things?" His mum asks, I stick a thumb up, telling her everything was good. Kellin dashed into his room, just as his mum left, stealing the salad out of my hands and collapsing on to his bed as his popped an olive into his mouth. He kicked his Vans off and they flew across the room.
"That's my salad." I mouth, Kellin ruffles my hair.
"That's why it tastes so good. How is piano going?" Kellin asks, I've been able to play the piano professionally since I was five, Kellin knew that too. I raise an eyebrow at him and he gets the point.
"Good, now do you think you could play the piano for the next cover?" Kellin asks, I don't hesitate to nod my head. Kellin smiles and gives my salad back, well if you could call it salad, he ate all the good bits and left the lettuce. I sigh and place the bowl on his desk.
"Not good enough Quinn." I mouth.
