That morning, John wakes up with a dull aching pain throught all of his body. Everytime he breathes a sharp pain shoots through his chest.
"Shh. Dont try to get up." Alexander whispers, calming the man.
"Hey lex." The other responds in a raspy voice, staring up at the man.
"Hey." He replies, his hands lightly brushing loose locks of curly hair from his boyfriend's eyes.
"What happened?" He asks, his mind pounding to loud for him to think.
"Oh nothing. You, being your hot headed self, back sassed Eaker til he beat the shit out of you." Alexander says, while digging through his stuff for the pain killers.
"Right." John recalls, sighing. "Are you mad?" He asks, hoping he gets a certain answer despite how angrily his boyfriend is searching for the meds.
"Open." He replies, poping a pain killer into John's mouth.
The freckled man swallows, the bitter pill go down his throat awkwardly.
"I'm not mad John. I'm scared." His boyfriend says as he gets to work cutting up his sheets. It won't going to be a great wrap, but at this point it'd be better than nothing.
"Scared?" John asks, shifting his position to look at the man. The sudden movement causes an eruption of pain in his chest, but he tries his best to ignore it.
"John, you stand up for what you believe. In any other world that would be amazing. But we live in a place where that kind of shit gets you killed, or taken away." Alexander says, forcefully ripping his sheets.
"I know, Im sorry-"
"No." His boyfriend cuts off, turning around with teary eyes. "Thats what you said last time. You swore you wouldn't do it again."
John can feel his heart break as he runs out of words to say, excuses to give.
He can only think of one thing.
"I love you." He whispers, tears falling from his own eyes.
*timeskip*
John grunts as he works, trying to keep the grimace off his face as he lifts a large stack of books."Hey. No no no." His boyfriend says, taking the books from him.
"I'm fine, really-"
"Dont try that shit with me." Alex cuts off, carrying the books to their respective places on the shelf.
"God I feel like I'm doing nothing." John mumbles, following his boyfriend around as he does both of their jobs.
"Good. You gotta rest if youre ever gonna get better." Alex responds, reaching for a shelf much above his reach.
John takes the book from his hand, reaching up only to feel a sharp pain erupt in his ribs. He instantly doubles over, dropping the book on the ground.
"See?" Alex says, helping him up again. "You gotta take a break from the 'Mr. Tough Guy' act."
"Fine." He mumbles, rolling his eyes.
"Thank you." Alexander says with a grin, pecking his boyfriend's lips. They were soft and sweet and everything that reminded the caribbean why he put up with all this shit.
"Lex! Anyone couldve see-" John starts.
"Jackie. No ones in the library today." Alexander says, his boyfriend peering around to see that its true. "Everyone's too busy with the job fair."
"Everyone?" John asks, a certain something on his mind.
"For at least an hour." Alexander responds, his mouth curling in a mischievous grin.
