Saturday, I went to work, I don't have anything else to do anyway. Glad that it was one of the busy days. I worked all day with only lunch as my break, I don't want to have more than one break so I wouldn't have the chance to think about Sebastian or Nina or Nate or anything else.
"Order up!" Tapping the bell on the counter, I scribble out notes as I try to wait for the order to get served.
"Table 6." Lindsey yelled.
"I'll do it." I said rushing towards the table and started cleaning it. Luckily, the orders from before just finished and I immediately serve them their food.
"Are you okay?" The manager asks looking at me worriedly.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I inform her. "Orders." Tapping the bell again, giving the manager a smile.
"You aren't even supposed to go to work today." She said helping with placing the orders on the tray.
"Don't worry about my salary for today, I volunteered." I told her.
"I don't mind about the salary but somethings telling me you're saying the opposite of how you really feel." She looks at me with concern.
"You're overthinking boss, I'm absolutely fine." I gestured her an okay sign and carry the tray to serve.
I was cleaning another table when the door chimed again, signaling some new costumer arrived. Lindsey was about to beat me at the table but I swiftly took my notebook and pen and stood there with a smile, not even looking at the persons on the table.
"Hi, I'm Abby! What can-" My smiles suddenly vanishes in my lips.
"Hi, Abby. It's nice to see you again." Mrs. Bass giving me a sweet smile as she recognized me.
"Hi, Mrs. Bass." I gave her a quick smile.
"Be polite kids and greet Abby." She gestured to Nina and Sebastian. Nina only rolls her eyes at her mom and Sebastian just looks out the window. "You know how sometimes unethical they can be." She chuckles.
"Unethical, better than being a slut." Nina retorted with a smirk looking at me from head to toe.
"Nina, you're mouth." Mrs. Bass scolded her daughter.
"Well, I guess truth does hurt." She took her phone out from her pocket. I wanted to see if Sebastian would display any emotion but his eyes are fixed looking outside the window.
"I'll give you some time to order." I said with a polite smile and left their table. I told Lindsey to take the new table instead, for I wanted to help in the kitchen.
"Hey, Jose. Do you need any help?" I said washing my hands clean.
"Yes, chop these onions for me." He pushes towards me one full bowl of onions. I guess I have here and excuse to cry.
*****
I was walking back home from work. I volunteered to close the diner and forgot that I took the bus to get to work today. The last bus runs at 10:30 and It's already past 11, that's why I was obliged to walk 20 minutes to get me home that I don't really mind at all.
I was walking past a beer club and some drunk men were smoking cigarettes outside. I thought that if I just continued to walk, they'll not notice me, but just when I was passing by someone grabbed my arm.
"Why does a pretty girl like you is walking alone this late?" A smelly guy said, he even burp at my face while talking.
"It's none of your business." I yank my arm away from him and before I could continue walking, he grabs my ponytail forcefully that I yelp.
"I don't like young girls with disrespectful mouth." He angrily said.
"Well, I don't like drunken smelly jerk in the first place." Pushing him away from me.
"This Bitch-" He was about to hit me when a hand caught his.
"That's not the right way to talk to a girl." Sebastian said shoving the guy that was 2x bigger than him on the wall. "Next time, if I see you here again, I'll make sure to do something much worse to you." The guy eagerly nods as Sebastian let him go. "Let's go." He grabs my wrist and drags me towards his motorcycle. "Here." He hands me his helmet.
"I'd rather walk home." I gave him back his helmet and walk.
"Don't be stubborn Abby and get on the bike, I'll give you a ride home." He said pulling me back.
"I'll be fine. I have been doing fine on my own these past few days." I told him. "You don't have to act pity towards me, I know you hate me."
"Abby just fucking get on the bike." He commanded.
"Just leave!" I gestured for him to go. "I don't want you giving me mixed signals because I surely will not be able to handle it anymore. If you hate me, just hate me. Don't do things that require me to feel like there is something more when there actually isn't." Tears were building up my eyes. "Just... leave."
"Okay." He nodded and zoomed away on his motorcycle.
I would probably regret my decision eventually, but I need to strong, I have to do it for myself.
