Nina was sitting on our usual seat at lunch, she was reading a book that she seems to be engrossed in.
"Hi!" Placing my tray on the table and sat in an opposite seat from her.
"I hate this." She slams it close then drink her cola.
"What were you reading?" Glancing over the book.
"Literature. Ugh!" She took my hand. "Why can't we just have the same literature class together. Not only we can drool over Mr. Allen at the same time, but you can help me with this kind of boring shit." She pushes the book away from her.
"Pride and Prejudice." Reading the cover of the book. "This is a good book." I nodded.
"I don't think so, it's so boring." She imitated a choking sound. I laugh.
"You know there's a movie adaptation of this book. I think Keira Knightley portrayed the female lead." I said recalling the facts right.
"Really?" She gasps in surprise overly dramatic. "I'll put that in my reminder, I'll make sure to watch that later." She quickly taps on her phone. "Done." She triumphantly brushes her shoulder.
David walks by our table with Hunter and some of there friends. We've all exchange greetings with the boys as they walk towards the Football players table.
"David really looks cute in that varsity jacket." I said teasingly at Nina.
"You mean hot." She fans her hand and we both laugh.
"You still talking to him?" I ask.
"Yeah, we've been exchanging texts." She nodded but her smile suddenly subsided.
"What's wrong?" I ask out of concern.
"It's just that. David's cool and we kind of connected last Friday night but I still can't get Nate off my mind." She confesses. "You know, sometimes I imagine that I'm talking to Nate instead of David. It's twisted, I know." She bites her nails looking at me. "I need to talk to him. He still isn't responding to my text that I feel like I'm being seen zoned. I haven't been treated this way by a guy before and It's making me insane."
I felt guilty about how Nina's feeling and how Nate was treating her. I know I turn him down, but It doesn't make his cold treatment to her acceptable. I need to settle everything once and for all.
I took my phone out of my pocket and text Nate to meet me by the AVR room now.
"Nina, something came up. I need to go." Taking my bag and storm out of the cafeteria not even minding what Nina was still saying.
As I walk out of the cafeteria, a hand caught my arm.
"Where are you going?" Sebastian asks.
"I'm going to talk to Nate. I need to know why he's been acting like a douche towards Nina." I answered him.
"Let's go." He gestured for me to lead the way.
"I want to talk to him alone." I told him.
"You know I'm not going to permit you that. I don't want you to talk to him alone. You don't know what's inside that guys head." He was being protective, and I understand but I know Nate won't tell me anything if Sebastian's with me.
"Do you trust me?" He nodded. "Then you'll let me talk to him alone."
I was waiting for Nate to arrive; I was sitting on a chair on the side responding to Sebastian's every minute text. I was about to hit send when the door finally opens, and Nate comes in.
"Abby." He spoke my name like we haven't seen each other for so long.
"Hi." I awkwardly smile. He walks towards me giving me a hug, I immediately push him away.
"I'm sorry. I got carried away." He was so happy that a smile never left his face.
"We need to talk about something." Took a step back, creating a distance between us.
"I know. I know." He nonchalantly waves his hand.
"Okay, I'm glad you-"
"I like you too." He blurted out as if I was going to tell him the same thing.
"Nate, that's not-"
"I know that you're going to say that you can't really admit it to me because you're worried about Nina because she has feelings for me." He took a step closer, grabbing my hand in his. "And I totally understand that you've wanted to keep our relationship a secret."
"I think you're mistaken." I took my hands away from him. He furrowed his brows like what I said confused him. "I didn't come here to tell you that kind of things, but I came here for Nina."
"For Nina?" His expression suddenly changes from smiling to boredom.
"Yes, I wanted to tell you that she was wondering why you've been ignoring her texts." I cautiously ask him.
"Simple, because I don't want to talk to her. She's annoying." He casually said an insulting sentence and he doesn't even mind. I am so confused on the way he was acting; he seems like a totally different person that I don't know him at all.
"She's annoying to you?" I ask him with a glint of irritation.
"Yeah." He nodded. "She talks too much that it annoying, she blows up my phone with texts and calls and she wouldn't stop throwing herself at me like a slut." He smugly smirks like he was proud of everything he was saying.
"Did you just call my best friends a slut?"
"Isn't she?" He laughs like it was the right thing to say.
"God, I didn't know you're such an asshole." I told him with disgust. "Thank you for letting me know that you have such a rotten attitude under all that. Glad that I knew it before it was too late." I was about to walk out of the room when he grabs my wrist. "Let go of me!" I yank my wrist away from him.
"I didn't mean all those things I've said. I'm sorry." He abruptly begs.
"Nate, you've already shown me your true color and you think I'd be stupid to believe you?" I push him away as he tries to hold my hand.
"You can't leave me. I need you with me, I want you." Nate forcedly push me on the side that I felt a splash of pain in my back from the impact. "I won't let him have you. You're mine." He tries to kiss me, but I quickly push him away.
"Get your filthy hands off of me." I kick him in his groin, and he whimpered in pain before I could open the door, he grabs my foot and tried to pull me back.
"You're mine, Abby!" I couldn't get away; he was dragging me to him. The door burst open and Sebastian immediately helps me. He kicks Nate in his stomach and move me to his side.
"Asshole!" Sebastian advances towards him and pulled his collar, punching him in the face that makes him fall back to the floor. Before Sebastian punches him again, I grab him and tug him out of the room away from Nate.
"Are you alright? We're you hurt?" He checks if I had any cuts or bruises on my body.
"You we're just right on time." I said with now tears in my eyes. He pulls me towards him, he caresses my back soothingly as I cry. "I'm sorry, I should have listened to you." I said in between sobs.
"Shh, you didn't know what was about to happen." He cups my face and wipe my tears. "I won't ever let this happen to you again."
"I'm so sorry." Hugging him tightly as I could.
