It had been several months since Spider-Man had last been seen around the area, crime rates had been going back up but Tony knew that the kid was alright. He had suggested to the kid a while back that he took some time for himself and focused on his studies.
What Tony didn't know is that even though he was taking time for himself he wasn't focusing on his studies in fact he dropped out of high school completely. The kid had lost contact with the Avengers and most of the people from high school apart from an occasional conversation over the phone with Ned or MJ.
Peter had never had an easy life that was for sure, witnessing his Uncle Ben's death, the loss of both of his parents at a young age and now recently, the loss of his aunt. He had been the only one at the funeral and sat there and mourned for hours. He now did twelve hour shifts at a local cafe to keep a roof over his head but was finding it increasingly more difficult. He was seventeen, why was life being so hard on him? What did he ever do to deserve this?
Peter took off his apron as he said goodbye to his co workers. He made his way to his house slowly, not taking his gaze off of the ground, his hair was a brown curly mess and his tanned skin was covered in flour from work. He got his keys out of his pocket as he fidgeted with them in his fingers before unlocking the door. He walked into the house the shadows overlooking the entire room, there was no light, no light in the room and at this point there was no light inside of Peter Parker. The teen was lost in a world of darkness like there was no happy moments, the kid hadn't ate in about a day and had an alarming weight for a person his age. He hesitantly walked into his room and over to the box in the far corner, covered in a thick layer of dust. He used his small, tanned hands to wipe the dust off as he looked inside of the box, the colors bringing back memories, both good and bad. This is no longer mine, I don't need this. He sighed as he picked up the box and began on his journey.
Walking there was going to take forever so Peter quickly hopped onto the subway hoping to make it there in about twenty minutes. He held onto the peg that hung from the roof of the subway as it began it's journey. He took in his surroundings, small kids with their parents, how he wished he could just have one more moment with his parents or just one more hug. Saying 'I larb you' to May one last time, but he couldn't. He looked at the children before whispering under his breath 'don't take for granted what you have, cherish every moment' and walked off the subway.
The night was cold and distant he stared off into the sky making his way for the massive tower where he used to spend his weekends. He put up the hood of his jacket as it covered his hair and most of his face. He walked into the building and even though it was night, the tower was still as busy as ever, he tugged on his hood a little as he made his way over to the secretary. He handed her the box as she studied it and gave it back.
"For security purposes, I will have to call security to take you outside with your parcel." She said as he lifted my hood up a little bit, her face squinted and smiled as she realized who it was, "Never mind, false alarm."
Peter handed her the box before saying, "This belongs to Mr. Stark tell him thank you." She nodded as the young spider-ling made his way out of the building, he contemplated going home before he turned in the opposite direction and headed up the hills.
It took Peter a while but eventually he sat down on the ground beside two large rounded stones, gravestones. Engraved 'May Parker, loving wife, sister and aunt' and 'Ben Parker loving husband, brother and uncle' He ran his fingers along the stones as he thought about all the great memories he had with them and how grateful he was for them being in his life and making an influence on him.
He sighed before saying, "Hey guys, it's been a while since you guys left and I just want to say I really miss you, I dropped out of high school and I know you're probably going insane at me for doing that May and would probably be ripping my head off as we speak but I had to." He was interrupted by his own sobs, "I really miss you guys, I just want to be with you again and let go of everything else, I just want to hug you and I wanted to tell you that it'll be alright but I couldn't. I'm sorry I let you guys down." He sobbed there for hours before finally picking himself up and making his way back to his apartment.
~The Next Day~
Peter had arrived at work feeling no better than the day before, he felt like there was a weight on his shoulders and wished he could just let go already, he hadn't slept at all last night thinking about his family, he was cleaning the counter at the front of the cafe when he heard the owner of the cafe shout over at him,
"Peter are you feeling okay?" The owner said worried for the seventeen year old.
"Yeah...I'm fine." Peter said as he put his hand over his face.
"Okay, take it easy..But can you get the order off of the customers?"
"Yeah sure." Peter replied as he walked to the cash register, "hello how can I help you today?" He said in a bored tone not looking up at the customers.
"Pete?" The person asked and this time he looked up.
He seen Wanda, Steve, Clint and Bucky all looking worried for the young spider-ling.
"C'mon kid, lets get you back home." Steve said as he hugged Peter, lifting him up and throwing him over his shoulder. The spider-ling had dark bags underneath his eyes and his skin was as pale as a ghost, he was completely out of it and was famished.
The group strutted in and straight to the med-bay where Bruce happened to be,
"We found a young spider-ling and he isn't doing great." Clint said with worry lacing his voice, he had a taking quite a fondness to the young kid that could climb walls along with everyone else. They were all worried as Bruce checked him out for injuries and illnesses.
"He doesn't appear to be injured, just very famished and tired." Bruce said as the rest sighed in relief, "has anyone contacted Tony?"
"No, no ones seen him since last night, he's been in the lab ever since the secretary gave him a package." Peter's face paled.
"Uh, I know what was in the package." Peter said as he gulped.
"My suit." The others clicked that Tony was probably upset about the spider-ling showing no signs of coming back.
"Why did you hand in you suit in the first place?" Bucky asked as Peter grew visually nervous.
"I," Peter paused as he took a deep breath, "I am too busy to be spider-man."
"What do you mean?" Wanda asked her think accent coating her voice.
"With my job and having to pay off bil-" Peter stopped talking.
"W-What do you mean?" Clint asked but it didn't take a genius to work it out.
Peter just looked down, his eyes becoming glassy as Tony burst through the door running up to Peter hugging him, "I'm sorry Mr Stark."
"Don't be sorry Kid come on let's get you into your room." Tony said as Peter stood up beside him, Tony gave everyone a look and everyone knew what it meant, this kid wasn't going anywhere.
~About a week later~
Peter was crawled up in a ball in his bed as Tony sat beside him, gently running his fingers through the youth's soft curls. He got up and turned off the light, he walked over to the door trying to be careful to not have the light shining in Peter's face so he would get a goodnight rest for school in the morning, he walked out and just as he peeked back in to take one last look at the kid's face for the night, the kid spoke up. "Goodnight Dad."
"Goodnight son."
