Pepper was filled with tears as she sorted out Tony's things. The years that they had all spent together. The memories.

Looking through his things just have been one of the most heartbreaking things she has done, especially once she found them.

The letters.

It had been a complete mistake when she came across them, they were hidden away and filed neatly, probably one of the neatest things in Tony's whole office. She knew what they mean to him though.

That's when Pepper's heart broke, there was a letter, not only for everyone else but for her and Peter too.

Tony's death had been hard on anyone but Pepper and Peter had been wrecked. They were completely heartbroken. Pepper has lost her husband, her love and the one she would stand by until the day she died. No matter what anyone said, Pepper knew she would never date again, she couldn't do that to Tony. Peter had not only lost his father figure but May too. A causality, they called it. Everyone knew Peter blamed it on himself.

They barely made it by, they took it a day at a time. Drowning in their own misery as the tears rolled down their cheeks without their knowledge. Pepper felt bad for Morgan, she would now have to grow up without a dad and she barely understood what had happened.

As Pepper began to read the letter, she broke down into a million pieces....

Peter's enhances hearing never missed much so when he heard the sobs coming from downstairs he had to go check it out. He had been playing dolls with Morgan after she had come bounding into Peter's room, waking him up, asking him to play with her.

He set her on his hip as he began to walk out the room, making his way down the stairs. The sobs and cries becoming louder and louder. Morgan's head leaned against Peter's shoulder, her dark hair ticking the side of Peter's face as he looked around.

His eyes caught on a door, painted a bright white colour and a room he hadn't entered, he knew it was Pepper. Pepper didn't like to cry in front of anyone so all of the tears of sadness and frustration always happened behind closed doors. She wanted to appear strong for Morgan, Peter knew that. That's why he sent her back upstairs so he could held Pepper.

He watched as Morgan ran back up the stairs, her hand on the banister as her feet hit against the floor. He waited until she was upstairs before heading to the door, knocking on it lightly before reluctantly pulling the door open.

His eyes immediately caught onto something on the floor, it was Pepper, her hair a mess and her eyes red and puffy as her chest heaved from the sobs. Peter quickly walked up to her, wrapping his arms around her securely as he held her to his chest, trying to calm her down.

He knew exactly what she had been doing, she had said to Peter on multiple occasions that she needed to sort out everything and she had been officially ready to face it today, or so she though.

"Hey hey, it's okay, you're alright Pep."  Peter said softly as he rubbed a hand up and down her back.

"I-I'm sorry P-Pete I-I can't." Pepper said as she sobbed into his chest, getting his T-shirt wet with her tears. Peter didn't care though, he was going to be there for his mom and he didn't care if all of his T-shirts got ruined by her mascara as she cried into him.

They stayed in that position for about ten minutes as Pepper recollected herself, her eyes were still bright red and puffy and you could see the tracks of where the tears had been rolling down her cheeks. She scammed lightly over the pile before picking up a letter and holding it out to Peter.

Peter~

It read out in cursive but messy handwriting and Peter knew immediately who had wrote it, he felt tears brim his eyes as he led Pepper out of the room, shutting the door as he went to make them hot chocolate so that they, along with Morgan, could have a cosy movie night.

He looked at the letter one more time before picketing it and going to make the hot drinks.

~

It had been months since that day, the letter still sitting on the far right corner of his desk as he tried his best to work, his eyes caught the letter every so often as he contemplated opening it but knew he could handle it.

He twirled the pen in his finger as he blew out air between his lips, trying to dig into his brain for the answer of question sixteen but to no avail. His eyes caught the letter yet again, the slightly battered edges taunting him as he looked into the cursive handwriting that had been written by his unofficial father.

He quickly grabbed the letter, opening it up carefully as he closed his eyes, taking the paper by his fingertips as he lifted it out of the envelope and began to read.

Dear Peter,

By the time you read this I'll most likely be dead or missing considering I'm too much of a wuss to actually tell you before. Yeah I know, shitty move. Anyway, I just wanted to say that ever since I met you I've seen you as a son, I see teenage me in your eyes everyday, your intelligence and wit.

I, even though I may be one of the most celebrated people in the whole world, admire you with all of my heart, what you've been through and what your might be going through right now.

I love and admire how stupidly selfless you are and how you put your life on the line every single day without fail to help the neighbourhood so the civilians can walk safely home at night. I love and admire how you can find those tiny small imperfections in my equations so that I can fix my problems. I love and admire how truly caring and supportive you are, putting your opinions and feelings at the side to help others.

You know that even though I might not be here anymore I'll still always be here for you. I I love you kid and nothing will never change that. I never really did understand how family can go further than blood properly until I met you, hell, I didn't even know what family was until I met you, Pep and Morgan. No matter what anyone says, biological or not, you are my family Pete. I'll always love you.

Love,
   Your dad,
             Tony.

Peter's eyes filled with tears as his hand graced over the small yellow paper clip before removing it and taking out the piece of pepper behind it. Peter turned it over to get a better look at them.

Adoption papers.

And for the first time in months, after feeling numb for so long, Peter cried.
