(Y/N POV)

Just My Type.

As I was walking to the nearest Target, I heard the patter of footsteps behind me. They were heading towards me at an alarming rate, so I spun around in a sudden act of interest and suspicion.

"Sorry if I scared you," Dante said, "I fell behind a little."

I raised an eyebrow in modest confusion. He seemed to be standing there innocently enough, and his usual negative attitude was hardly visible.

"I didn't ask you to come with me," I said, "I'm just picking up something and heading back to the hotel."

"I'm heading back there anyways, so I thought I would come with you."

"Then you could help me find rice cakes," I said, "since you decided to tag along."

The walk to Target was seemingly peaceful. It was odd that the silence between us seemed almost normal, almost needed. Both of us were afraid to speak, since the last time we tried talking it didn't go in the right direction.

My hands gripped the metal door handle of the large store, and I swung it open.

"You first," I said.

"Oh, thanks."

I watched him pass by me, and I shut the door behind me in a thump. The Target was surprisingly empty, considering it was the summer time, but I suppose that was in our favor. No more lines to wait in.

"So how many of these rice cakes does he want," Dante asked, "they look so thin..."

"I'm just grabbing a bag," I said, reaching for the one in front of me.

I tucked the snack under my arm and headed off towards the cashier. It wasn't long before I noticed Dante wasn't walking beside me. I turned around and looked at the spot where I saw him last, but he wasn't there.

"If this is a prank," I mumbled under my breath, "it's not funny."

I wove in between the aisles, searching for the missing boy. It occured to me that he could have made his way up to the second floor, so I sped off towards the escalator.

The upper level contained mostly snacks and beverages. I stumbled down the candy aisle, but to my surprise, he wasn't there. That's usually the first place someone would go.

"What are you doing up here?"

I narrowed my eyes and spun around to see him standing behind me.

"What do you mean," I said, "I was looking for you!"

"Really? I stopped to tie my shoes, and the next thing I saw was you running up the escalator."

"You could have told me you were tying your shoe!"

"Who does that?"

"Normal people!"

"Who said I had to be normal?"

I shut my mouth, sensing we were taking this conversation somewhere unwanted. I paid for the rice cakes, and strutted out of the store with Dante trailing behind me.

I thought he'd return to the picnic party, but a couple block from the hotel I noticed he was still there.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"To the hotel."

"Why?"

"Because I want to go to sleep?"

"Oh."

I guess I was the problem in this situation. I need to be more sensible, and not blow my head off everytime I didn't get a situation. I grumbled in defeat and stalked into the elevator.

He wandered in after me and we both pressed the button for the same floor. The doors closed and all of a sudden, an awkward tension filled the small compartment.

"Why do you hate me?" I asked, "did I do something wrong?"

He didn't look at me in the eye, but kept his gaze stuck on the dirty floor. I could almost sense the thoughts racing through his head, but he still hasn't said anything.

"Dante."

He opened his mouth, an indistinguishable jumble of words coming out, and he struggled to say something.

The elevator came to an abrupt stop, and the doors slowly opened. He stopped rambling on about whatever, and we both walked out.

"I'll see you later," I said, walking off towards Aidan's room, "I didn't understand a word you said."
