They were kidnapped roughly on the same day around the same time by different people. They were knocked out unconscious on their way back from school in Ekoda and Beika, so they didn't know where they were taken to. They don't even know how long they were held captive anymore.

Given the undercover name Rosé (French wine) for Shinichi and Cherry (Cherry wine) for Kaito, they barely even remembers their real name anymore. Everyone else always refers them to those name and soon enough, they had lost their identity and became someone that no one even knows anymore.

Why the names, you asked?

While being tortured in what they call The Red Room Shinichi had been forced into a female headspace. Permanently. Now that he was stuck in the space, he would constantly refers himself as a girl, growing his hair longer until it flow passed his shoulders and wears tight revealing female clothes just to tease the male criminals. No one was allowed to touch him other than two people. Kuroba Kaito himself and a man under the name Gin.

Gin was a higher rank assassin, cold and completely merciless. Everyone could see that Shinichi was quite fond of the grey haired male and they also know Gin was secretly enamored by him. The elder male was the one who came up with the name as he usually calls Shinichi as "My Rosé". Hence, the name Rosé.

As for Kaito, he was named Cherry because the Boss had commented how beautiful he looked being wrecked on the bed after countless of their sexual session on one night.
