Another successful but also not successful heist, Kaito thought with a sigh as he held the jewel to the full moon with a sad look. Today was not a school day since holiday had just started so Kaito had busied himself in his home, refusing to join Saguru and Aoko in their outing. He wasn't feeling like himself even though he tried so hard to pull up his Poker Face.
Today's heist was boring since Saguru and Aoko went to Kyoto for a short trip that Kaito refused to go with. Even though the Task Force and Nakamori-keibu were still the same, he wasn't feeling that energetic to play around. Moreover that his tantei-kun weren't here as well to provide him with challenge.
With a lonely aching heart, Kaito took a flight off towards wherever he feels like going, to the direction of Mouri Agency. He sent a quick text to Conan with a frown on his usual smiley face, gripping his hang glider tightly. Luckily the flight to the agency weren't that long. He didn't know how much longer he could take until everything bursts out.
He waited out at the front with a hopeful heart, changed into his civilian clothes. Conan usually doesn't sleep in early out of habit so he knew he was still awake at this time. He waited in the cold night for 10 minutes that turned to 20 minutes and later 30. He waited and waited until it were an hour but still no signs of Conan. His heart slowly wilted, the ache was back on full force.
He smiled painfully as he stared at the building with a sad look. Huh.. who am I kidding even? Meitantei wouldn't care. I'm a criminal to him, he thought turning to leave before he heard rushing footsteps towards him. "Wait, KID!" the voice that Kaito recognised fairly well, panting behind him as the person stopped running. He slowly turned around, eyes wide as the cap he was wearing shield his face from the other.
"M-Meitantei?" KID stuttered, making Shinichi smirked at him with a smug look. "The one and only, KID. Surprised, aren't you?" the elder grinned before he straightened his back to look at the thief with a slight concern look. "You texted Conan's phone but Conan is already gone permanently. I'm not supposed to be out right now since Haibara is still checking on the progress but I can't leave you waiting out here in the cold, can I?"
Kaito blinked at him tearfully before rushing to hug him. "Let's go to my house," Shinichi said in a soft voice, rubbing his back gently. "It's late and cold right now. I don't want you to get sick," he added before pulling away slightly. Kaito gripped onto Shinichi's hand, stopping the male. He opened his mouth to say something but nothing would come out. He felt the lump in his throat got a lot more bigger. The detective looked at him with an understanding look.
"I won't force you to talk if you don't want to, KID," he said with a gentle tone, pulling the male along as they walk towards Kudo Manor. "We can sit in my room. I don't think you're a fan of coffee much so I'll make you some hot chocolate instead." Shinichi flashed a soft smile at him and walked in silence until they get to the house.
Shinichi didn't let go of his hand even as they walked to the kitchen and the former made some drinks for them. They went to his room with a hot drink in hand and sat on the floor face to face near the window. Kaito stared at the mug, eyes tearing up as everything started to caught up to him. He didn't notice he was already crying until he felt Shinichi pulling the mug away from him and pulled him into his lap, hugging him tightly.
Kaito clutched onto the shirt with a tight grip as he sobbed loudly. Shinichi didn't say anything for a while, reaching up to take the cap off. That action made Kaito's body turned rigid and Shinichi ran a comforting hand through his hair. "I won't look. Don't worry. You can trust me, KID. I won't tell anyone you're here. It's okay. You can let it all out. I'm here for you. I'm here to catch you when you fall."
Those words made every walls he built over the years crumbled as he sobbed harder. Shinichi rubbed his back soothingly, swaying them both side to side. Kaito's body trembled so badly and Shinichi whispered softly at him to breathe and calm down. "You're safe here.." he heard the Holmes' fanboy said. "I won't let anything harm you while you're in my arms."
They spent 5 hours like that until Kaito finally calmed down completely. The wild haired brunette stared blankly at the wall, head resting on Shinichi's shoulder. "Thank you," Kaito said almost inaudibly. Shinichi squeezed his body firmly with a gentle smile. "You can always come to me whenever you need. I'm always available for you at reasonable hours."
For the first time since he woke up yesterday morning, he smiled a small shy and genuine smile. "You're amazing," he croaked out. "This is why you're my favourite tantei," he pulled away slightly to wiped his eyes. Truth to his words, Shinichi didn't even look at him as he placed the cap back onto his head. Kaito smiled even wider, feeling much lighter than before, heart completely trusting on the other male.
The magician pressed a kiss onto Shinichi's cheek sweetly before pulling away. The cowlick haired chuckled softly as they both stood up. "Are you going home now?" Shinichi asked. "You didn't even drink your drink that I made," he pouted cutely. Kaito stretched his back with a chuckle before saying, "Well, I'd like to stay for breakfast if you don't mind, Meitantei."
"Of course I don't, KID. You're welcomed here anytime. Just don't snoop in like you usually did," Shinichi rolled his eyes and left the room with both mugs. Kaito stared at Shinichi's back with a fond look. Now I know why I trust you so much even though I shouldn't be. You sure are one of a kind, Kudo Shinichi. Thank you for being here. We seemed to understand each other so much even without much words being said between us, don't we? he thought.
He ran down the stairs when Shinichi called for him. "Oi, KID! Stop daydreaming!" Kaito chuckled. "I'm coming! Jeez, Meitantei. Let a man be sometimes! By the way, can you make me chocolate chip pancakes?!" he said excitedly as he stepped into the kitchen. Shinichi looked at him with a deadpanned look as he turned around. "In your dreams, KID. What do I look like to you? Your maid?" he snarked without any heat in his words.
"Nope. You look like my wife," Kaito teased and ducked by reflex when Shinichi threw a spoon at him, making him laugh loudly.
Everything is okay. Even if it doesn't, it will be okay. They had each other's backs. If things goes wrong, they have each other.
