#10 - Warmth

Kaito stared at the wall, unmoving, blank, emotionless.

His mind replayed back at the horrific scene of his nightmare and he felt himself started to tear up automatically.

He's alone in his room, his bed felt too cold for him. No one was in the house except for him.

His mom was in Paris.

Jii had a holiday.

Aoko was asleep.

Saguru was in England.

Kaito felt so detached from his body and somewhere in his mind, he knew he's scared, absolutely terrified but he couldn't feel it.

He tried to desperately think of someone, anyone who he could spend his night with before dialing a number like a default.

It took 4 rings before the other person answered the call.

"KID?" Conan's chibi voice called. There was a few silence before Kaito spoke up. "S-Shinichi.." he stuttered out, eyes alarmingly started to tear up.

"O-Oi.. What's wrong?" Conan asked, shocked. "N-Nightmare.." Kaito admitted, shamefully.

"What was the nightmare about? Do you want to share with me?" Conan's voice soft over the other line.

"I.. I don't really remember much.. but I think it was about you and the task force.. There was lots of shooting and stuff.. It was.. frightening.."

Conan hummed softly. "What are you doing right now?"

"Just sitting on my bed.."

"Okay. I need you to stand at your balcony and look up at the moon. Think you can do that?" the small detective asked.

Kaito hummed and did as told.

"I'm looking up.."

"Good. Cause I'm looking at the moon too," Shinichi's voice came through the phone which Kaito thought was from the voice changer.

"I have nightmares too and sometimes it was too much for me. But I always look up at the moon. Wanna know why?"

"Why..?" Kaito asked softly.

"It reminded me of you. The moon shone so bright on the night sky and it reminded me of you. My life, right now, is dark but your heists always calms me down and chase the shadows away. You gave me hope that not everything is of black and white."

Kaito felt himself relaxed and extremely calm. "I gave your life colour?" His voice echoed softly through the night.

"Mhm," Shinichi said. "Hakuba-kun voiced out his concerns when he asked me about your heist, Kaito. You should call him."

Kaito laughed, soft but joyful. "I will.. Thanks, Shinichi.. I love you.."

"I love you too, darling. Get some sleep. I don't want you to tire yourself out," the KID Killer said.

"Goodnight~"

"Goodnight to you too."

Kaito put down his phone with a light smile, thankful to have someone like Shinichi with him before he dialed Saguru's number.

"Kuroba?"

"Hakuba, Conan-kun told me that you're concern about me~ How sweet of you~" Kaito teased.

"Pfft. As if."

Ah..

All is well again.
