#2 - His Soulmate

Soulmate is a common word for everyone.

Other phrases for 'soulmate' that is common to communities are 'significant other' or 'other soul'.

Many people would found out about their soulmates at the age of 17. Depends on the individual.

As for Shinichi, he always believed that Ran was his soulmate when he was little.

It wasn't until he's 8 years old that he refuses to believe soul bond existed since it seems like an illogical thing to exist. Just a fairy tale, he once thought.

He also never get the chance to confess his feelings to Mouri Ran, his best friend, when the Black Organisations drugged him and changed his body back to a 6-year-old.

Shinichi watched as Ran waited for his return for two years then moved on once she found out about her soulmate, Hondou Eisuke. Shinichi told her to let him go as he would do the same for her.

He was heartbroken for sure but he never let it show through his body.

He then realises his feelings for Kaitou KID, the moonlight magician who steals jewels with a white suit and do loud and bright shows.

But Shinichi only disregard his feelings. Surely KID is not my soulmate. He probably already has someone he likes. There's no way would KID likes a detective. It's like digging his own grave to him, he thought.

He continued to play KID's game of cats and mouse like nothing happened to him for a while until the day he doesn't have to anymore because...

He returned back to his normal age thanks to Haibara Ai, who found the cure for his body but sadly not for his heart.

He avoided KID's heist like a plague. Refusing to go even with KID's personal invitations.

It wasn't until Sonoko begged him to catch her 'Kaitou KID sama' for her. Sadly, Shinichi can't refused it.

So he went as Sonoko's own personal begging.

That night in Beika Museum, everyone witnessed the playful and familiar banter between KID and Shinichi in the middle of the crowd.

So, Kudo is KID's favourite, everyone had thought.

Shinichi was oblivious to it but he blushed light red when KID handed him a beautiful blue flower. That's when he realises that KID is his soulmate.

Their eyes flashes their significant others' eye colour. Shinichi's eyes turned violet and KID's eyes turned cerulean.

Everyone gasped.

KID managed to run away but everyone was stuck in their places, watching Shinichi's body tremble, trying his best not to break down crying.

He fled away from the museum back to his house quickly.

He called Haibara later that night and the little scientists listened to his cries, knowing how much the detective needed a presence comfort from someone.

"Kudo-kun..." Haibara said softly. "Sometimes what wasn't expected is the thing we need to expect the most," she said. "Like your soulmate being Kaitou KID, of course."

Shinichi stared at the wall blankly, not knowing what to think and what to feel.

"It's not that I wasn't expecting that KID is my soulmate..." he trailed softly. "It's because I expected it too much for it to be real... He surely has someone he loves, Haibara. Someone that's definitely and most likely not a detective like me."

"I can see the denial in his eyes when our gaze locked to each other. I know that he's in shock but... that doesn't mean he should-" he sniffled.

"He denied the bond. That denial sent me to this emotional state which both of us know that I'm not the type of person to cry over love."
