It wasn't that Shinichi was a fan of lies but really, Ran and his mother was just asking for it.

They kept on making him go on a blind date and he's tired of it. His father couldn't do much to help because he was scared of her just as much as Shinichi was to both her and his childhood friend.

He wondered if he was too nice  to say no.

He really felt like they didn't understand at all that he was content just being alone like this, not having anyone to date with. It does gets a little lonely but that doesn't mean he needed a partner to date with, dammit!

Sulking at Poirot café as he waited for Hakuba Saguru, his detective friend from Division 2 to come and talk about a cold case the blonde Brit was stumped with for days.

"Hey, Kudo-kun," Saguru smiled at him apologetically as he sat down next to him. "I'm sorry I was 20 minutes and 56 seconds late. I met these two on my way to Beika and they wanted to join along. They're my friends from school," he said and Shinichi blinked towards the two now occupied seats in front of him.

He was met with a pair of very mischievous indigo eyes. "KID?" he blurted out before wincing. "I- Sorry," he blinked twice as he straightened his back. "Your eyes kinda reminded me of him-"

But it's really KID. Huh..

The guy waved his hand away nonchalantly with a grin, holding out a hand towards him. "It's fine. It's fine. Trust me, I get that a lot," he said pointed at Saguru, who winced next to him. "I'm Kuroba Kaito, amateur magician. Nice to meet you, Kudo-kun."

Taking the hand with a smile, Shinichi felt himself relaxing from the stress he felt. "Kudo Shinichi, high school detective. Nice to meet you too, Kuroba-kun."

"Nakamori Aoko. Nice to meet you, Kudo-kun."

"Likewise, Nakamori-chan," he said before locking his gaze with Kaito again by accident. Then he froze when a distant memory came to him.

Looking at him with worry, Saguru placed his hand on his shoulder. "Kudo-kun?"

Shaking out of his thought, he managed a weak smile. "I.. I'm sorry but I feel like we've met before.. back then when we were kids?" he said with a questioning tone in his voice.

Kaito looked at him with a genuine confused expression. "I don't think we did, Kudo-kun."

Shinichi frowned. "We definitely did though. I remember I was at a graveyard with my parents," he narrowed his eyes as he looked at his coffee cup.

"I remember kaa-san was crying with a woman around her age, short hair and purple eyes. Tou-san was pretty distraught too if I remember correctly. Everyone left the funeral and only my parents, the woman that I'm pretty sure was your mother, another guy that I was sure was Nakamori-keibu and you were there too," he pointed at the girl next to Kaito.

"Then there's two of us. I tried talking to you but you wouldn't answer me. We just sat there in front of the stone in silence," Shinichi trailed off before turning pink at the three identical stares he received.

"You.. You were that boy that held my hand, right?" Kaito asked, turning pink as well.

"I guess.. I don't remember what I said to be honest. I was so fixated to make you stop crying," the blue eyed male said, feeling sheepish.

"'Death is constantly around us. When it's time to go means it's time to go. Don't focus on someone's death for too long otherwise you'll lose yourself before you even start living.' That was what you said," Kaito recited from his own memory.
