TWENTY EIGHT

Then I thought everything would go smoothly as planned, yet it didn't.

"Pa... you're here."

"So are you my princess." he stepped closer and hugged me. "I was waiting for you to come."

Medyo nalito ako sa sinabi niya. "You knew I would come?"

"No."

Dumistansya ako sa kanya. "Then... how did you know?"

"I told all the guards if they see you. Inform me right away."

How ingenious of him.

Yung guard naman ang taksil! Kakasabi ko lang na h'wag mag-ingay na nandito ako, pero ano? They are loyal, I salute them for that but if they were to choose their loyalty between papa and me, they'd always choose the chairman.

"So you were at home before you knew I was here?" nag-aksaya siya ng oras na pumunta dito dahil sa'kin?

"Yes I was, you're father knows how to rest Evergreen."

Surprising.

"Now that I'm here, what's next?" not sure if that came out rude.

His face turned soft. "Ever, umuwi ka na. Miss ka na ng mga kapatid mo."

Mga kapatid? Hindi ba mali ang pandinig ko? "Sigurado ka d'yan pa? Maniniwala ako kung si Griffin, pero si Deacon?" imposible.

"Fine, your younger brother and I misses you."

That's better.

Truthfully, my mouth can't seem to utter the words I've been meaning to let out. Our situation won't get any better kung mananatili akong ganito.

I breathed deeply. "I don't feel like going home... I don't feel like it's my home. I don't feel like I belong there... I don't feel like I deserve to live there."

It took me long to finally say that to him. I gathered enough courage to tell him that with all honesty.

"Pa..." I took his hand and held it tightly with my two hands. "The truth came to me like thunder. I never expected to get hit."

"It was rough and I'm still having a hard time accepting all of it. Sometimes I want to blame you and mama. If only you could have told me sooner, I think it wouldn't be this hard for me."

I tried to stop my tears from escaping when I saw the pain in his eyes. "Kung sana sinabi niyo sa'kin nung bata pa ako, hindi sana tayo masasaktan ng ganito. Kung sana unit-unti niyong pina-intindi sa'kin noon, matatanggap ko ng mas maaga ang totoong pagkatao ko. Hindi yung ganito pa, lalo lang naging komplikado ang lahat e."

"But what good is there in blaming you? Or mama? Nangyari na e."

Tears formed in his eyes. "Anak, I'm sorry. We did what we thought was best."

"Yet it wasn't. It came out worse."

This, is what lies does to people. It ruins strong relationships. Destroys beautiful memories. Lies tears us apart from the ones we love.

"Please allow us to fix this." he begged.

Us? "Who do you mean by us?" tell me it's not what I'm thinking.

"Your mother..."

"No!"

I tried to walk away but he won't let go. "Evergreen please!"

"No is no! You know how I despise her. Ayoko!"

Hinarap niya ako ng maayos. "Let's calm down okay? Ever I'm not forcing you. I just thought maybe it'll help if you could talk to her. Mas alam niya ang katotohanan kaysa sa'kin dahil ina mo siya. She brought you to me. Kung ayaw mo siyang maka-usap, sige h'wag na pero umuwi ka na Lia."
