Lightningheart blinked, watching a leaf spiral down to the ground.
"Looks like a leaf from the Moontree, doesn't it?" a voice penetrated the silence, making the tom jump.
Sniffing the air, Lightningheart found(to his disappointment), the wind was blowing his scent towards the cat and the other's away.
Carefully picking his way to the sound, he answered catiously, "Who are you? And why are you talking about that..." Forgive me, StarClan. The tom took a shaky breath. "...thing." His voice wavered.
"Don't push it. I know your loyalty." The cat snorted. "Good luck convincing the clan otherwise after I tell them." The underbrush rustled, and was silent.
Lightningheart's eyes widened in fear. "NO- wait-" he crashed after the mystery cat, desperately trying to reach them. I just want the best for my Clan, he wailed in his mind, racing through the trees. I just want them to find peace, and not live in the dark, oblivious to any and all threats.
He wasn't there in time.
30 MINUTES LATER
Pantherstar sat on the Hightree, inspecting her claws. Licking off fresh blood from a hunting patrol, she called causally, "Hey, Lightningheart, can you come here?"
The tom padded up to the leader, trying to appear inconspicuous. "Yes?" he replied, sitting down calmly.
"We don't trust you. Bye." Getting up, the leader pointed to the entrance with her tail. "Nice knowing you. See you, loner."
Lightningheart's eyes widened, fear beating through his chest. He ran up to Pipersong, touching noses with her.
She gasped, all she needed to know in his eyes. "Please, no! Let him stay, please, Pantherstar!" she pleaded desperately, watching as the tom walked slowly out of camp.
The she-cat shrugged. "Sorry, Pipersong. I didn't vote him out."
"And you got me."
LIGHTNINGHEART was exiled. He was a Sly Fox.
