As the eight cats gathered by the Moontree, they closed their eyes, touching the circles of stones around the sacred trunk. It glowed silvery blue before all around it fell to the ground, fast asleep.
The eight woke up in StarClan, where the kill vote was taking place.
"We should kill Pantherstar!" a cat yowled, unsheathing their claws excitedly.
"Yes, because she totally won't be protected again," another stated sarcastically, snorting. "The Clan cats are paranoid little idiots, so of course they won't protect their leader." Grooming their chest fur, the cat announced, "Runetail should be the one stopped. I don't trust him."
"Oh, yes, because the 'paranoid little idiots' won't want to protect him either," the other mocked, sneering. "Yes, only their leader matters. Psh, who cares about worthless warriors; they have a bunch to spare."
As the two bickered, the Lead Traitor growled, seeing questioning looks from the StarClan cats.
"SILENCE!" they roared, slamming both paws down. "You mousebrains," they snarled, baring their teeth at the pair. "Who cares? We can just wait, okay? Just shut up. You're filling my head with foxdung just listening to your stupidity."
Growling, they shifted from haunch to haunch, hissing to themselves. "Alright," they sighed, taking a deep, ragged breath. "We will be fine without a kill. We will be fine... perfectly fine."
They woke up, running away as soon as they could. Forgive me, StarClan, they thought mournfully, slowing and bowing their head in shame. I promise we will make a kill soon. Tommorow night. And they will not live to see the sun rise above the horizon.
NO ONE died last night. The traitors could not make up their minds.
