Goosepaw had fallen alseep next to the river.
He hadn't meant to. The apprentice was just admiring the water and got a little carried away. As the moon rose higher, it has mesmerized him into a sleepy awe, and eventually he lowered his head and went to sleep.
The mistake was paid by a high price.
As the tom drowsily woke up, he gave a yowl cut short as he was pushed hard into the water. Swept away by the current, Goosepaw barely has enough to time take a breath before he was yanked under.
The river was shoving him down every chance it got, draining him of any and all energy. It was pounding him mercilessly, bumping the apprentice harshly into every rock or boulder it could. It was too much for him.
I guess this is my fate. I'll just accept it. Goosepaw closed his eyes and sadly let the water wash away his life.
