''Oh shit.'' Eva cursed, her hand wrapping around my pulse squeezing it tightly. She could definitely feel, how fast my heart was racing, against her fingertips.
''Let go.'' I pleaded. I needed space to breath. I had felt as if the air around me got sucked inside a despairing void. ''I'm f-fine.''
No I am not. Peter is dating someone as wicked as Gen, if not more and I can't protect him. I can't interfere.
''Where's LJ?'' I asked scanning my surroundings. I got my answer when I saw her between my cousin's arms.
''C'mon! Leo's waiting.'' Eva informed lowly not answering to my request. Her grip pulling me on her shadow. ''He's waiting for you.''
I straightened my stiff back. I rearranged my clothes. I shuffled my curls and I placed a smile on my lips. I did everything I had to do to look un-bothered.
Why did it hurt though? I didn't like Peter anymore. At least not as much.
''Nice game Jones.'' Was all I had time to say before a beaming, sweaty but ever handsome Leo pulled me into his arms and kissed my lips until the knot on my throat vanished. ''Okay....'' I mumbled shakily as he pulled away with a wild smile. His thumb brushed my lips before he caressed my cheek.
''Have I ever told you how pretty you are?''
''You might have mentioned it once or twice, yeah!'' I said, biting down the smile that urged to surge. Leo had the power to obliviate me of my worries. I was dazed and under his spell, for as long as his eyes were on mines I didn't think about how wrong it was to lead him on.
''No wrong saying it again then. Specially with my jacket on.'' His fingers pinched the zipper and he playfully pulled it up all the way towards my nose. It was so incredibly lose on me, I could fill the gap I failed to occupy with water and swim Olympic laps.
''Oh is it yours?'' I teased zipping the jacket down. Leo shook his head, his lower lip curling between his teeth.
''You're going to ruin me aren't you? You're my karma.'' Before I could assure him that ruining him was the least of my intentions we were interrupted by a reporter from the school's newspaper, asking for some words of wisdom from the captain.
''You should interview number fourteen. Peter Kavinsky, he's the man of the match.'' Leo said, pointing towards Kavinsky that still had Chloe clinging to his side like a koala bear to its eucalyptus. Although, she didn't look as delighted as she did before and it was maybe because Lara Jean kept squinting her eyes defiantly beside her, anytime she tried to open her mouth. Sure my best friend was short and could only fight, maybe, a small fly but she could be intimidating. I knew I'd never cross her.
''Leo? That was so cool of you!'' I beamed, my heart fluttering at his good deed. ''I thought you despised him.''
''Only because he had his eye on you and since he isn't anymore..'' He nodded at Chloe, not even trying to hide how delighted he was about the sight. ''I can see why you like him, he's not that bad of a kid. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have scored.''
''How so?''
''Well, he totally had the chance to score yet he chose to give it to me when he saw me by the goal as well.'' He said fondly, as if he hadn't been badmouthing Peter for the last three weeks. Nonetheless I couldn't complain, good vibes and a nice ambient was all I wanted. No remorse, no hard feelings and no bitterness lingering. At least between the two boys, because every time I glanced at Peter and watched him look down at Chloe with his eyes shining with delusion I felt like throwing up.
