better off as nothing

The next morning, the weather seemed to have chosen to match my state of mind in empathy, but instead the lack of sunshine got me feeling bluer. It was colder than it was usual. The sun, supposed to provide heat, was washed out by a sky so pale my eyes hurt anytime I dared to glance upwards and in consequence my fingers turned so gelid they became stiff and numb. My painfully throbbing skull worsened the minute I stepped inside the dance studio and was greeted by the person I'd rather see less.

''Hi Rita!'' Chloe called from the floor where she was showing off her gymnastic skills by doing the splits, to the two people, besides the two of us, that were inside. I took a deep breath, taking hand to the bridge of my nose and trying to remain calm, collected and quiet about Peter's deeds in the previous day. ''You seem like you had a rough night, eh?''

''What are you doing here?'' I snapped throwing my bag towards the corner. The sound of my Ipad's screen probably shattering inside, diverted the attentions towards me and my sleepless face.

''You know, Rita.'' She began standing up from the floor with a perfect jump. ''I get the feeling you aren't very fond of me.''

''I'm not.'' I told her frankly and by the look on her face it wasn't the answer she expected, so I decided to clarify. ''You're mean, fake, obnoxious and conceited.'' She blinked blankly for a while but then she laughed historically as if I hadn't just listed all the things that were wrong with her, things that would throw a normal person into an existential crisis of epic proportions, things that would have a normal person rethink their entire persona.

''You're so funny.'' Chloe wasn't normal, she was insane and that was proven by what she said next. ''Anyway, I changed my major. I'm in your class now and oh!'' She overly excitedly clapped. ''I saw you were auditioning today and I signed up as well, what's the musical called?''

''Gigi.'' I stumbled backwards a bit. Her words rushed trough me like a tornado wrecking my safe harbour. The fact Peter had already been swooped into the grips of her tempest didn't seem enough and she was trying to claim more reasons to my happiness. ''Why?'' I asked blankly. My capacity to emotion had been washed away as well and I began thinking I was inside a nightmare. Chloe wasn't like Gen, she was worst because even though Gen had made my life a living hell, she never tried to steal my spotlight.

''I don't know.'' She giggled. ''Med school just wasn't for me.''

Before I could tell her how stupid her deed was, Mrs. Swan walked into the room and the class began. I tried, I really did but my mind was so not in the right place that I left the room after some mere fifteen minutes.

My mind was running laps and I was so incredibly angry and frustrated that suddenly I gained the courage to confront Peter about last night. I couldn't let people keep getting away without consequences.

''Rita, what in the love of God?'' It was Isaac who answered my violent knocking. His eyes were puffy and drowsy, hinting he had woken up with my wrath.

''Kavinsky!'' I shouted pushing my poor, confused cousin aside and storming inside their dark dorm. I pulled the window's blind all the way to the top earning loud groans from both boys.

''What the fuck are you on?'' Peter protested as he angrily stood from his bed. His naked torso was no longer a wonderful sight for me because all I could think about was Chloe touching his skin and It made me sick.

''We need to talk.'' As I spoke I could see the flashbacks of the previous night replay against Peter's pupils, making the frown on his face deepen.

''What did you do this time Peter?'' Isaac turned to his best friend and even though he didn't know what was going on he looked profoundly disappointed.
