James POV: RECAP:
When she's done her chocolate milk and her thighs and wrists were checked, (all clean) she walks back to the living room and hugs me and Toby saying as she goes to bed upstairs happy, "I've got a sister! I've got a sister!!" Lew laughs at that then heads upstairs behind her to make sure that she gets tucked in and all that.
He's super overprotective I feel bad for any boy or girl that has romantic feelings for her. I wouldn't want to face the wrath of Lew at all.
CURRENTLY: James POV:
"Sam seems like a good kid" Lew says to me and Toby
"Stand off-ish and jumpy, but yeah she seems great. Her and Liz are going to be great friends" Mark says.
Me and Toby smile at each other and I grab his hand, he interlocks my fingers with his and smiles at me. Mark and Lew are having some wine and relaxing while Liz and Sam sleep soundly upstairs enjoying the peace and quiet because once and a while it's always nice to calm down and just enjoy the events of the day.
It's quiet for a few minutes until we hear one of the kids being restless upstairs, they're tossing and turning in their bed and crying softly. You can hear it through the ceiling just faintly but everyone in the living room heard it loud and clear. We all jump up, Lew putting down his wine glass. Mark just chugs his half full glass down before joining us as we run upstairs.
Lew and Mark go Liz's room while Toby and I go into Sam's room. Turns out the one freaking out is Sam because she's tossing and turning in her bed and now that we are less than four feet away from her we can her the whimpers coming from her mouth and the pleads for whatever is going on in her world right now to stop.
I shut the door behind us, and Toby immediately runs to the far side of the bed and takes her into his arms. I lay down on the bed as well and wrap an arm around Toby bringing him in closer and an arm under Sam, Toby and I start to whisper things like, "It's going to be okay," and stuff like that. It calms her down a little bit but she's already waking up from the nightmare.
When she fully wakes up, she shoots up and brings her knees into her chest and rests her head on to her knees. That can't be comfy, especially with her ribs... I think silently to myself. I must've been right because Toby looks panicked but is trying desperately to not show it. I take her into my now criss crossed legs and sit her down on them.
She stays in the fetal position, but I slowly stretch her legs out in front of her. I lay her back down in between me and Toby and she curls into me while Toby rubs her back. After a few mintunes her crying slows the stops and her heavy breathing sets in again to show that she's sleeping.
Toby lets out a breath of relief and so do I, I was really hoping that we wouldn't have to use the puffer on her or anything like that. Plus where it's been a big day, she'll need all the sleep that she can possibly get right now. And because we are all tangled up with her if we try to get up, we'll definitely end up waking her up. So Toby and I stay put and gently brings the blanket farther up on us. Then we fall asleep.
-Next Morning-
I feel someone or something wiggling around trying to get out of our hold. So I tighten my grip on Sam, and I hear her groan. I hug her so that she's laying on top of me, then I open my eyes and look at the digital clock that sits by her bed.
3:32 in the morning it reads, I hear Sam whisper to me, "I can't sleep Jamie," she says, using a new nickname for me. Her voice is all raspy sounding, like she's been crying a lot recently. I pull her head on to my chest and set it right under my chin. I listen to her breathe and it's quick like panic is slowly rising in her chest.
