Note* - Max & Tul have flashbacks in this episode.
Tul used the rechargeable blow-dryer for his hair while he stood outside on the terrace. He was a bit tipsy when Meang dropped him at his hotel. After rinsing the smell of the bar off, his plan was to go straight to bed.
He kept thinking back and getting a picture in his mind. It was from his family holidays, the year he turned seventeen. This would be the fourth full vacation he would spend with Max.
That year was extra-long in his recollection. The break from school couldn't come soon enough. Every day felt like a month.
The night before his family left for Phuket, Tul didn't sleep a wink. Instead, he texted back and forth with Max, they were both still awake at four in the morning.
Both sets of parents knew that as soon as they arrived and unpacked, their teenage sons would disappear for hours. It had become routine over the last couple of years and in many ways, Max's father appreciated it, he appreciated Tul. Keeping the hyper Max entertained was a full-time job. It was also why his dad encouraged him to surf.
Tul saw his younger self running from his cottage to Max's and Max's father shoving his son out the door. He would hand the boy some money and wave. "Have fun you guys!"
Tul shut the blow dryer off and let it hang down at the end of a feeble arm. This momentary look back was so clear. Tul could see Max's smile and remembered how it knocked his shoes off.
Max said: "We will dad. We will."
They sauntered down the narrow street slowly. Max kept looking back over his shoulder to see that they weren't being watched. When they came to the bend in the street and were out of sight, it was an all-out run until they reached their private spot.
