The sea was alive and active.  The sound was constant and a strong steady wind added to the cacophony outside.  Max's heart was beating in his ears.  He couldn't take his eyes from Handsome's face.

Tul read the sentence three times.  There was a deep furrow between his brows,  and instead of angry,  (which is what Max expected), Tul looked affixed between frightened and sad.

"Max,  how do I tell Toey this?  And,  and,  my sister..."

Tul breathed deeply.   "What is Heng going to say when he finds out that someone has done this to his brother?  Will Heng hold Toey responsible?  Will he be angry with me?"

He caught his breath and continued with his unconscious flurry of thoughts.

"What does my dad think?  Would he have told your parents about this too?"

Max didn't know which question to answer first.  "Tul,  Tul,  slow down.  I'm sure he wouldn't say anything to my parents.  This has nothing to do with them."

Tul was so quiet.  It was painful for Max.  He took carefully the corner of the paper from Tul and laid it aside.  He held Tul's hands as he sat across from him.

"I'm not so sure Max.  My dad went to see your parents for something."

Max missed it when his father gave the notebook back to Tul's dad.  Max didn't hear the part about Mr. Thanasrivanitchai being at his parent's house.

"Ay,  did you know that my parents were coming here?"

"I found out late today.  Dad told me.  That's why I ordered all that seafood."

Max knocked himself in the side of the head.  That had never occurred to him.  Tul had the perfect amount of food for eight people.

Tul started to get up,  but Max was still holding his hands.  He wouldn't let go.  "Wait,  where are you going?"

"My phone."  Tul took the shorts he'd laid over the back of a chair,  just before he and Max showered.  It was in the back pocket.

He sat again on the edge of the bed and beside Max.

Every door and window in the house clicked,  locked.  Max could see lights come on outside.  Some lit trees from the bottom and others the sea-wall of rocks.  There were spotlights in the trees that illuminated Tul's dining deck.

Max stretched up and saw the underwater lighting come on as the pool began to glow.

"There,  at least no one can get in."  Tul shut the phone off and tossed it on the bed.  He put his hand on Max's knee.  "I'm so happy that you're here Max."

The thought must have suddenly popped into his head.  "I should go to Toey's room and make sure the drapes are shut."

"But what if they aren't sleeping yet?"
