8 year time skip

Sorry for the long hiatus:-) sometimes you just loose interest in things for awhile and it's okay. Thank you for waiting for me. You all mean the world to me ;-;

"Kakashi senseiiiiii how much farther?" A blonde boy whines while dragging his feet.

"Naruto you just asked that!"

"I know Sakura but I forgot."

The pink haired girl slapped him upside his head.

"Now now you two, we haven't even got there yet and you already want to kill each other."

Naruto made a face at Sakura "Obito sensei it's her that's messing with me."

Sakura crossed her arms and smiled "oh really? Sasuke would agree with me. You're annoying and someone has to remind you. isn't that right sasuke?"

Sasuke gave her a bored expression and yawned. Giving her a hint to leave him out of it.

The look on Sakura's face made naruto burst into uncontrollable fits of laughter.

Obito smiled at kakashi. "So how excited are you? It's been awhile hasn't it."

Kakashi nodded "it has.."

"What are you most excited for?"

Kakashi's mask hid a sweet smile at the thought of Hikari finally returning to him. "All of her."

All three of the bickering kid's ears perked up.

"Her? Excited? What is kakashi sensei talking about?" Naruto raised an eyebrow.

Obito smiled. "Do you three remember the time you asked kakashi why he never dated?"

"Yeah.." sakura was beaming on the inside, she always wanted to know why the silver haired man was never seen with a woman. With all honesty she thought it was because of a secret romance with Gai sensei.

"Well the girl we are escorting back, she's your answer."

"EHHHH?!"

Kakashi put his hands in his pockets.

"Kakashi sensei is Obito sensei lying?"

"No."

Even sasuke was paying attention now.

"Tell us the story!"

"Yeah Tell is Tell is! I was wondering why my mom kept smiling when she was saying bye to me this morning. Does she know the girl too?"

Obito and kakashi looked at each other and smiled.

"Yes, and so do you."

Naruto tilted his head, "I do?"

"Yup, and so does sasuke."

Sasuke flashed a look of distaste.

"What does she look like?"

Obito couldn't keep his snickers away, "Well, picture Hikana in your head. Are you doing it?"
They nodded.
"There you go."

"It's Hikana???"

Kakashi shook his head.

"Tell us already kakashi sensei." Naruto could no longer keep his excitement and wonder at bay. Who was this mystery girl and why did he know her- no if he did know her why didn't he remember her?

Kakashi closed his eyes and breathed in, he didn't know where to start or how to say it. It was easy to think about but hard to explain to kids their age who have no idea what love is.

"We met years and years ago. She was on a different squad than me but we would always train together as one team. She was the weirdest most obnoxious person I ever met, I always thought of her as annoying. She never tried hard in anything. But then one day it all changed. I realized just how funny, different, amazing, and perfect she was."

Obito laughed "that's not all, take it from me I grew up around them. They were crazy about each other, anyone could see it. I could tell even before they could. They were always together and when they weren't they were on missions."

Sakura smiled brightly "can you tell us a story about her?"

Obito had a grin as he remembered something embarrassing. "When she came back from a long trip one of the first things we did is lay down on minato and kushina's living room floor watching naruto and eating ice cream. We talked about our love problems for hours."

"What about you kakashi sensei, what's a good memory you have of her?"

He couldn't help but chuckle "it was the day I finally asked her out. Naruto and sasuke had the biggest crush on her so they weren't happy. But the smile she had on her face while you two argued with me was unexplainable."

Sasuke looked down. Ever since his family had been murdered by a masked man he wasn't the same. He offered wondered about what he used to be like growing up with out a care.

"Were.. were we close?"

Everyone looked at sasuke.

"Me and her.."

Obito put a arm around the Uchiha boy. "Are you kidding me, she adored you. When we get back I'll have to dig out some pictures for you."

"Ouu ouu! Was I close with her!?" Naruto bounced up and down.

"Definitely, the second you saw her you fell in loOoOve." Obito cooed.

That night they set up camp by a river that lead right to where Hikari was staying. Tomorrow they would retrieve the girl.

Kakashi starred into the fire imagining what it would be like to see how. They hadn't had the chance to talk in a very long time. A part of him wondered why and if anything would be different when they saw each other. All these years later and his heart still yearned for her. Nothing had changed for him.

Obito sat down next to his silver haired best friend. "So stupid kakashi, what are you thinking about."

"A lot."

"You haven't talked much this whole trip. Are you really that nervous?"

"Yeah."

They could hear quiet snickering and a faint whisper. "Kakashi sensei is in lOoOve."

"Well you shouldn't be nervous. If she's anything like she was then you have nothing to worry about.

Kakashi nodded. "Yeah."

"Kushina is going to be so excited to see her. So is everyone else of course. How happy do you think she will be to see that her silver haired stallion is the one escorting her back."

"Silver haired stallion?"

"My vocabulary isn't that big I have to get creative sometimes."

Kakashi shook his head, not being able to hold back a chuckle. IF she was anything like the girl he last seen then sure, he had nothing to worry about. But if she had come to Like life better without him there would be noting keeping him from giving up.
When he'd go on missions, risking his life, all he had to do was think of the girl and in a instant he'd have the strength to push forward. Not for him but for her. Always for her.
