Departure

Hikari woke up early. She reluctantly kicked her blankets off of her and started up at the dark ceiling. The sun hadn't even risen yet.

Today marks the beginning of a long journey. To say she is scared would not only be a understatement but it barely scratches the surface. Her life is going to be changed forever. It's a very lonely feeling. Leaving everything you've ever known makes you realize just how much the little things mean to you.

Hikari thought about not seeing the ramen shop, Sasuke and naruto grow up, her friends journey into adulthood... that's right she would be twenty four when she comes back. She wondered how much everyone would change.

Eventually she got up and got ready. She grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder heading out the door but stopping to look back. Hikari made sure to remember ever detail of her apartment, before switching the lights off for the last time and closing the door.

The whole village was still asleep, it had to be around four am now. The morning chill met her skin and she stopped.

"You came?"

Hikana was leaning against the wall next to her door.

"You bet."

Hikari gave her a weak smile. "Thank you... for everything."

Hikana smiled and began to walk, Hikari soon followed.

"I should be thanking you, you're the one who gave me another chance."

"Another chance at what?"

"A great life. I'm not stupid, I know just how suspicious everyone was of me at first. Even you. Still you loved me through everything and took me in. You gave me everything I've ever wanted."

Hikari smiled throwing her arm around her sisters shoulder "guess we gotta get married now since you just confessed your love."

She rolled her eyes and light heartedly pushed her sister off "As if, sorry I have someone in mind and you ain't him."

Hikari started giggling "oh yeaaaa." She turned around and started making kissy noises rubbing her arms over her shoulders "oh shisui you're the man for me."

Hikana punched her sisters arm. "Knock it offfff!"

The village gates came into view and Hikari sighed, she couldn't see kakashi.

Hikana half smiled at her "I'm sure he's taking it hard huh?"

Hikari shrugged "honestly I can't tell. I don't know what I'm supposed to do through Hikana. What if he moves on when I'm gone."

"Idiot."

"Huh?"

"I said you're a idiot! To think you've been dating for this long and you haven't gotten it through your thick skull." She thumped the side of her sisters head. "He's in love with you, a type of love that doesn't go away. If he ever did do something like that you'll be the girl he beats himself up over everyday for letting go. The way he talks about you, the way he looks at you, that's how I know. I wish you could just see it through my eyes, or anyone's eyes to be exact. Then you'd know."

Hikari smiled "yea. I know. But I can't help it. I hate that about myself."

"Hate what?"

"Not being able to let anything really sink in. It's like I can't accept anything. Working hard, friendships, love. My life feels like a dream, not in the good way. It's like absolutely everything is just a millisecond away from disappearing. I'm afraid I'll wake up from all of this one day and realize I lied to myself and none of it was real. It was just one of my stupid dreams."

"Well that shouldn't stop you from living it to the fullest. I know I know, easier said than done. But what's harder to admit, saying you loved him with everything you had and getting hurt or being too scared to try."

"I do love him, more than anything. I think about him and I just get so happy. I wanna be around him all the time. He can do something as small as laugh and it makes my heart beat faster. I was so scared to fall in love with him but it's the best thing I've ever done. Leaving is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but I know it's for the good of the village. I'm sure I'll have some pretty good memories with the new people I meet, but the scariest thing is knowing I'll never stop missing him. The kakashi now wouldn't ever leave me, but what about the kakashi eight years from now."

" I can't promise you anything, but I do know one thing. Everything is always okay in the end, and if it's not then it's not the end. I have a feeling this will end good. I can promise you this, we will all be waiting for your return and you better be prepared for the biggest hug of your life from me."

They were now at the gates. There stood team Seiko and team minato, except for kakashi.

Rin held out a small wrapped box.

"You didn't have to!"

Rin smiled "of course I did! It's a little something to remember us all by. Don't open it until you get there though."

Hikari nodded and smiled.

Akane and Minori gave her a hug
"looks like we are parting from eachother again. Don't worry though hikari, Minori and I will be here when you get back. Make sure you don't slack off, cause the first thing you will be doing when you get back is sparring with me. Of course I'll go easy on you. I don't want you to be too embarrassed by having the future hokage wipe the floor with you."

Hikari rolled her eyes. "Mhm. I'll miss you two so much! Thank you for all the memories. I'll always cherish you two."

"It's not like we are dying" Minori laughed. "so don't be so sad, it's not a goodbye, it's see you later okay."

"Okay." She smiled. "That sounds too cliche though, how about smell ya later."

Akane rolled her eyes.

Just then someone started ruffling her hair. "Smell ya later hikari!"

She swatted at Obito. "Ya ya ya, I'm sure I'll be able to smell you all the way from there."

Rin started laughing and out her hand on Obito's shoulder. "Don't mind him."

Hikari said her goodbyes and left. Not seeing kakashi filled her with tremendous sadness. It didn't make her feel any better about her worries either.

But just a little outside of the gates there he stood leaning on a tree with a sad smile.
Hikari's face dropped and he walked over to hug her.

"Im gonna miss you so much."

He rested his forehead on hers "I'll miss you more. Don't worry though hikari, it'll always be you."

She closed her eyes. "Promise?"

"Promise."
