Her artificial smile crept on to her precious face. She gently wrapped her frail hand around yours.

"Emph." A small mutter emitted from her trembling mouth. You kneeled in front of her to meet her height. Her 'smile' soon disappeared as she hovered her open hand above her chest motioning a clockwise movement.

Please

She balled her hands into a fist. Once the first tear broke free the rest followed in an unbroken stream.

"Comn pack."
(Come back)

She held her hand out once more and she pressed a 'shh' with her right hand on her pursed lips and slowly connected her right hand and placed it down on her open left hand

Promise

She wrapped her tiny arms around your neck and gave you an embrace. It was painful to see your sister like this; tears soaked your uniform as her face buried on your chest.

"Carter." A bittersweet smile appeared on your face as you looked at the young boy who hid behind the groups of families waving farewell to their loved ones who decided to join the military. The toddler pouted and ignored your presence.

"ALL RIGHT SOLDIERS! SAY YOUR LAST GOODBYES BEFORE WE GO TRAIN YOU FOR BATTLE!" The brown haired male declared signaling that it was almost time to break apart.

You held the girl's shoulders and gently pulled her away. Sorrow was in her eyes as she gave you a small peck on your cheek. "Eden," you proceeded to communicate to her in sign language as you spoke the words you portrayed. "Take... care of... yourself and your... brother."

You hovered your hand over your chest and motioned a 'please' making the girl nod in response. You brush the dampened hair out of her face and tucking it behind her ear. You raised your hand and bent your middle and ring finger down. "I love you."

You rose up and patted the girl's brunette hair. Signaling your final goodbye.

"Y/N!!" A small voice broke through the crowd. You glanced left and right to meet a familiar face.

"Carter!" Your brother fell into your arms.

"PLEASE COME BACK!" He sobbed; holding your hand tightly you rubbed your thumb on his tiny hand hoping to comfort him by your gesture.

"If... IF YOU FORGET ABOUT US LIKE PAPA AND MARSHAL! I...i... I'm going to hate you forever!"

"ALRIGHT SOLDIERS IT IS TIME TO GIVE YOUR HEARTS TO THE BATTLE FIELD AND FOR THE PEOPLE!" The commander hollered.

"Alright, I guess it's time for me to go." You softly pushed them back to return to the crowd.

"YOU PROMISED OK?!" Carter cried out and waved as you march away.

"Wow your tough as a stone wall Y/N, I didn't see you shed a single tear! And even after your siblings bawled their eyes out." Your temporary leader, Hanji, turned around grinned at your unfazed expression and turned back around. Her squad came to a halt as they waited for the other troops to exit and head to headquarters. Hanji turned around to see if she has her squad in formation but instead she was taken back from your breakdown.

"And.. that's because I don't want them to see me like this!" You covered your swollen eyes in embarrassment. "I was... I WAS TRYING SO HARD NOT TO REVEAL MY EMOTIONS BACK THERE. WHAT IF... what if I can't keep my promise?"

Hanji did nothing but pull you into a tight embrace. You sniffed as you blinked away the overwhelming tears that blurred your line of sight.

"Come on Y/N, you're going to make us cry too." Ausia rubbed your back in a gentle manner. You pulled away from your temporary leader as it was your squad's turn to exit.

"You have a bright future ahead of you! This is not the end!" Hanji chanted. "I hope you decide on joining the Survey Corp." she muttered. "You can tell them all about 'the outside world'."

The corners of your mouth formed into a small smile.

A month or two flew by quickly. Those dreadful days of nonstop training made you a better person. How to balance on your 3DM gear, how to hold your weapon and how to replace your gas tube. That last two weeks was more focused on slaying titans. You learned that slicing the nape was the most effective way of dispatching a Titan.

Now it was time for your group to decide which path they wanted to take.

"Now having heard this dismal state of affairs." Commander Keith spoke to the large mass of trainees. "Who ever still wishes to put their life on the line and join us remain here." He paused as the trainees gave their undivided attention. "But first ask yourself, can you give your HEART AND EVERYTHING FOR HUMANITY!?" The new recruits gasped in fear they dreaded for their lives as the torches flickered in the open stage. "That is all... Those others that want to join other regiments are dismissed."

A Survey Corp cadet step out into the stage a said a few words to their commander before them. The conversations between the recruits overpowered the words of the soldier so it was hard to hear what he was trying the say. Grunts and hesitant actions began to take place. One by one trainees dismissed themselves while those standing still looked back at their comrades leaving them behind. Your legs began to tremble just by looking at who was left. Hoards of people moved themselves out of the situation. You turned around to look for Ausia; remembering the vow that she stated the other night.

"I will join the survey corps... to find out what it's like on the other side of the wall."

Just a couple of minutes later only fifteen left stood still. The brunette took a deep breath in and exhaled. "If you were ordered to die, would you do it?"

"WE DON'T WANT TO DIE SIR!" A voice shot out from behind making the commander grin.

"Of course, let us hope that you don't." He sighed before he continued. "You who stayed are one of us! Allow me to welcome you to the Scout Regiment. This is a genuine salute soldiers. TOGETHER WE GIVE OUR HEARTS!" Keith formed his hand into a fist and placed it on his chest in a determined manner making the now scout members follow his lead.

"SIR!" You all cried.

"What have I gotten myself into?"
