"You asked for me Erwin?"

"It's Commander Erwin now." Erwin teased as you enter his office. "Anyways, I brought you here to discuss about something."

"And what would that be sir?" Within a second you brought back your formalities and your determined attitude as a soldier.

"I've already talked to the higher ranking officers about this, and they agreed. Y/N Lahnet, you will become an official captain as of today."

"Sir? All of a sudden? You must b-"

"Miss Lahnet, former commander Keith Shadis has dropped down to become an instructor in the training corp. Because of the lack of availability in the other captains' schedules, no one will train the new scouts, making them unprepared for real combat. I cannot stress enough that many of our soldiers have fallen due to that reason alone."

"Can't I just train them as a fellow peer?" You questioned his sudden decision in making you a captain.

"Absolutely not," he spoke. "Being a Captain comes with the soldiers' undying respect. Training them as the same level will not work in your favor, as you've experienced in the past I believe." What he was saying was true. As a peer, you would fool around with your squad members more than you trained. "Also your role will be a reserve. If any unfortunate events happen, causing a captain to die, their squad will be directly transferred under your leadership. But as of now, you are to accompany Levi's team in their squad's agendas."

"Did Levi approve?"

"It took him a couple of budges but he did oblige."

"Of course." You chuckled

You found yourself recalling in a fond memory as you stroll your way towards the mess hall. Warm, whole, anxious a good way, but an overall golden feeling. The approaching sound of chattering drowned in your ears as you reached your stop. Pleasant but painful thoughts clouded your mind. The small conversation taking place around table lined with unfamiliar faces.

"Hey Marla? Is that my bread you're eating?"

"Y/N, are you ready for our first mission?"

"Enzo! I totally beat you during that race yesterday!"

"Ausia would you mind passing that?"

"We're late for breakfast Y/N!"

"Here, let me fix that stubborn strap of yours."

The squad you once enjoyed being with were... gone.

The only thing that makes nostalgia truly pleasant is it sends you back in time. Otherwise, it just hurts. A steady stream of liquid trickle down your cheek could only express the feeling you were experiencing right now.

"Y/N, let's give it our all for humanity!"

"Ausia, why did you join the military?"

"...to find out what it's like on the other side of the wall."

They're all gone.

"Hey doll, are you alright?" You were too focused on your thoughts only to find yourself being ask by a soldier if everything was alright. You nodded your head and brushed the tears away from your face. "It's a tough world, it's ok to express your feelings." He reassures you in a kind way.
