Donatello's POV

It felt surreal knowing that someone as beautiful as (Y/N) returned feelings for me. Who knew this day would come? Thank goodness I didn't die that night at dinner, because then I wouldn't be able to experience this sort of happiness. I felt like I was on Cloud 9.

But here's the problem: what do we do now? I know I'm supposed to ask her out and such, but I could never get the timing right. When I felt like I should go for it, I'd back off and rethink the situation. It was a constant fight inside my head about whether or not I should do it right then and there, but it was always too late by the time I decided. Even if I asked, it never felt how I asked her was correct. (Y/N) was too extraordinary of a person to be asked in such an ordinary way. She deserved to be put on a pedestal and treated as if she was a diamond in a sea of rocks.

"Out of all the equations I can solve, why can't I solve this one?" I groaned, slamming my hands against my head in exasperation.

"Yo, Don," I heard my brother call out as he approached the kitchen table. He peaked his head over my shoulder with a toothy grin. "What'cha workin' on, buddy?"

I scrambled over the piece of paper I had been scribbling ideas on, praying that he didn't read anything. "N-Nothing," I sneered. "Mikey, what did I tell you about poking your nose into other people's business?"

Mikey frowned and found an empty seat beside me. "Hey, you're the one working at the kitchen table for once. If you didn't want me to ask what was frustrating you so much, then maybe you should've stayed in your lab."

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "You know my lab is out of light until I go out and find some more bulbs." I quickly gathered my papers, careful to lift the edge of the paper to him so he couldn't see what I'd written so far. "Since you won't leave me be, I'll use a flashlight then."

I left Mikey at the table and made my way to my lab, which was where I probably should've been in the first place.

If only he had a birthday gig to leave me alone for a few hours.

With a small flashlight I taped to the top of my head, I set my notes on my desk and searched my belt for a pencil.

"Damn, did I leave it in the kitchen?" I groaned and looked around the lab for another writing utensil. I'd go back to the kitchen, but do I really want Mikey to bother me more? I don't think so.

So far the only ideas I had to ask out (Y/N) were with flowers, through a sign, and a puzzle. The puzzle seemed like a good idea, but I'm not really artistic. In fact, I don't anyone in this family has any other hobbies besides training and doing what we already do now. I don't think it would be a good idea to ask her with some sort of science experiment considering the fact that she's not really good at science at all. Don't get me wrong, I've been tutoring her, but she's not an advanced level yet. Anyways, my ideas were complete bogus right now, and I don't know what to do.

I kept looking for a pencil when my eyes caught sight of a book lying at the corner of my desk. It was Looking For Alaska, the first fiction novel I'd ever read. I never really felt the need to read anything besides nonfiction, but (Y/N) seemed very interested in the book and wanted me to give it a try. It was a good book, but there was something drawing me towards it now.

Picking up the novel, I flipped through the pages and skimmed through the words in search of whatever it was that I was looking for.  I got to page 123, and I finally found it.

I quickly set the book pages down on the desk and opened a drawer that held my sticky notes. I eventually found a pen in that drawer to quickly write down the idea I had going on in my head.

This is it. This is perfect!

I slammed the sticky note on page 123 and raised the novel up into the air. Staring at my work triumphantly, I kissed my amazing idea and marched out my lab, ignoring my brothers' questions as I walked out the lair.

. . .

She was waiting for me by her window. I didn't even have to knock because she practically pulled me into her bedroom once I stepped foot onto her balcony.

"Hey," (Y/N) said ecstatically. "Good to see you." She pulled me into a hug, making my heart skip a beat. Every little thing she did gave me butterflies.

I wrapped my arms around her all while making sure the book I held in my belt hadn't fallen out yet.

"Long time no see." I said. We let go and smiled at one another for a moment.

She's so beautiful.

"I wanted to return the book you loaned to me," I unlatched the book from my belt and held it out for her to take. "I really did enjoy it, and I was hoping you could lend me another one. I think I want to get more involved with the fiction genres."

She took the book into her hands and grinned. "I have the perfect book for you!"

I watched her turn her back to me, but I had more to this plan. "But wait! There's a quote in there I thought maybe we could talk about. I think it's on page... 123? Maybe?"

Here goes nothing.

"Oh, okay." She opened the book and flipped through the pages slowly, reading through the page numbers until she finally found what she was supposed to.

Time stood still as she stared down at the sticky note I had put on the page. On the sticky note, I drew an arrow pointing to a sentence that asked, "Do you want to be my girlfriend?" It was the simplest yet most creative way I could think of to surprise her. I knew if I could involve something she loved then it would definitely be memorable.

A giggle escaped her lips, and she looked up at me with a broad smile on her face.

"I never thought you'd ask." (Y/N) finally said. She pulled me into another hug, this one much tighter than the one before.

"I-Is that a 'yes?'" I asked.

"Yes, a thousand times yes!" She exclaimed.

It was funny, really. Today changed everything between us, and I couldn't have been happier. I never knew I'd feel this way about anybody, but I'm so glad I could feel this way now with someone like (Y/N).

If you got the update and are currently reading, congrats because you caught me when I forgot my outro. Anyways, I'm honestly so glad to be back, and I'm hoping I can keep this going without getting terrible writer's block again. Finding ways for the turtles to ask you out is kinda tricky, especially since I've only ever had two boyfriends where I asked out the first and the other beat around the bush a lot when asking me out. I'm pushing through it because of how much this story is growing (surprisingly). Anyways, thank you guys so much for reading! Leave a vote, comment, and share with your friends if you enjoyed it! And I will see you in the next chapter. Bye!
