Chapter 18 - Grassy Picnic

Mikasa's POV

I glided across the hills and swung through the forest, eyeing every corner, every sense of movement, even the slightest sound. My squad were often behind due to my rapid swinging and sharp turns; the only thing I was focused on was Eren. Eren was kidnapped by vampires, strong vampires, I could tell by the amount of force that came upon the tree from earlier. They couldn't have been royals..?! No, I'm sure that he'd be able to hold on for awhile.. Only for awhile.

He may be an idiot who rushes into things and gets rough into fights but he has exceptional strength. One time, while I was hiking through the forest, a couple of thugs surrounded me and tried to take me away. They hit me whenever I resisted from their grasp and even held a knife up to my throat.

Who knows what there true objective was but I was sure that it would lead to my misery. While one of the thugs started tugging on my clothes Eren pounced at him from behind the bushes. At first, they backed away at the sight of a dark wolf snarling at the silver that glinted in their pockets and sent each other anxious glances.

The three thugs immediately started flicking out their knives from their back pockets and swinging blows at Eren. Seconds later, I found myself staring blankly at the bloddy bodies that laid before me and Eren, who stared at me back with his glowing eyes. Oh how I cringed at myself from the past, I was weak, didn't understand the cruelty of the world. Luckily, I had Eren back then. Now, it's time for me to be there for him.

Petra's POV

Eren and I sat together, side by side, gathering utensils and some napkins for the picnic. I watched as he carefully folded the napkins and placing them in a neat stack on the table beside my basket. We continued sorting the baskets in silence and sometimes sneaking glances at each other. I feel like I should say something but what? My eyes drifted away and eventually made eye contact with his turquoise gaze. He looked away for a second but then looked right back at me.

"So.." He started while scanning the room. "This is the dining room, huh? I never noticed how high the ceiling was."

"Ah, yes. It is quite large, isn't it?" I said, trying to start an actual conversation. We went silent again for about a minute until I heard a low grumbling noise. Eren flinched and lowered in his seat with his face slightly pink. How cute. "I'm gettting hungry too." I chuckled.

"S-sorry." He muttered. "Um, Petra, do you know what Erwin said meant?" Erens' face turned dark for a second before he looked up at me. I thought about what the Fuher said before but I really wasn't sure what he was thinking. Maybe Levi or Hanji knew?

"No, not really. The Fuher is a really mysterious man; nobody ever knows what he's thinking!" I said with a slight grin. He responded with a pathetic smile that I knew hid the loneliness he kept inside. "Eren, don't be sad. I'm sorry if you're feeling homesick or really lonely but if you ever need company, I'll be there for you. Oh, of course, that also goes for Hanji."

"Thank you. That.. that really helps. Knowing that you have someone to be there for you.." Eren responded with a soft voice and a tender smile. I'm glad that he smiled. His smile was always so perfect, it made me feel warm on the inside and a bit jittery on the outiside. Our conversation became a bit more livelier after that. We started talking more about the picnic and avoiding the other situations. I got to see Eren smile, more and more, over and over. Oh, how I wish I could see him like this everyday. As we started talking about food, we heard a loud thud come from the kitchen.

"What was that loud thud?" Eren asked while looking around curiously. "Did it come from the kitchen..?"

"Er, that might've been Hanji packing up the sandwiches.." I said while peeking over his shoudler. "You know how excited she is."
