Chapter 7 - Trailing

"Let's get started." The Fuher cleared his throat and immediately put his eyes on me. "It's certain that your father was killed by Shapeshifters. They moved right after the riot in order to hide from the villagers. My familiar saw them traveling with carts towards the north. Meaning, that they could've stopped at either Sina, Rose, or Maria."

"Here?"

"Yes, it's possible. I have sent my familiars to look over the towns and search for newcomers."

"I see.." I look down at my lap and tug on my skirt. "Um, do you happen to have any details about their group?"

"Hmm.. I guess we have a few. But they are only small details my familiars sighted during the riot."

"Yes.."

"They have exactly seven horses and three carts. Their clan is also under the orders of their Alpha, Dot Pixis."

"Pixis.. Wasn't he one of the commanders during some of the conflict between the vampires and Shapeshifters?

"Yes. His clan must have very skilled warriors. We must be careful."

"Tch. They're just a bunch of mutts." Levi said crossing his legs.

"Still, they must've been trained well and have good control over shifting." Said the Fuher closing his eyes.

"Ahh~ I've always wanted to get samples from a Shapeshifter. Hey, is it possible for you to capture one for me? I want to try experimenting and maybe even test some of my newly created potions." Hanji said with drool coming out of her mouth.

"Manners at the table, Hanji." The Fuher grunted. "Also, that's only possible if they settled here in Maria."

"Those mutts are pretty hard to catch, even for me." Said Levi sipping on his tea.

"Even for Levi.." I said with a small voice. Levi looked over and quickly averted his gaze away from me.

"I'm sure you're skills have improved, Levi." Said the Fuher placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Tch."

"Anyways, I would like all of your cooperation and help me find this group of Shapeshifters. And maybe even capture one."

"Seriously?! Yesss! I've been waiting for the moment my whole life!" Said Haji waving her arms in the air. "You have my full support!"

"What would we gain from capturing a wild animal?" Asked Levi raising his brow.

"Answers. Maybe more. We could even hold it as hostage and use them as an advantage to finding their location. This is also for the sake of our clan."

Levi gave the Fuher a long look before answering, "I got it. When do we start?"

"I want to start tomorrow. I will send my familiars to Sina and Rose. You guys are responsible for Maria."

The Fuher was about to say something else until his eyes reached mine. "Ah, princess, you don't need to help if you'd rather not."

"No, I will help. I want to find the man that killed my father." I said with a strong voice. The Fuher smiled at me before continuing.

"I also must warn you, that there have been rumors of a skilled vampire hunter going around the community named the Red Blade. I suggest you three take caution."

"Rumors are just rumors. Vampire hunters haven't showed up in ages." Scoffed Levi.

"Then, the three of you will search Maria. Levi and Hanji, you two are also expected to protect the princess at all costs."
