Petra's POV

The Fuher sat upon a throne that seemed to be made of some type of stone. I walk across the red carpet and pat my dress before doing a courtesy.

"Welcome, princess, our home." He sat up and shifted his position on his throne. "I'm sorry about the long trip you had to go through. I'm sure there weren't any casualties?"

"Yes." I nod at him while fidgeting with my fingers. Before I could open my mouth the Fuher cleared his throat.

"I believe your room is to your liking?"

"Ah, yes. Thank you very much." I didn't want to spend much time standing there so I decided to get to business. "Were you possibly able to get a report?" The Fuher shuts his eyes for a second then gave me a nod.

"My familiars have already finished investigating. We got a report about your father."

I stood there, awaiting an answer. My father has recently gone missing. Apparently he ran away after being caught using illegal potions. I never found out was he was working on.

His location is unknown. My mother has been terribly worried since there was a rumor going around about a skilled vampire hunter. I personally requested the Fuher to search for him, for my mother and fathers sake. Since he had the best resources, he was the only one I could turn to.

"One of my familiars found your father, living in an old hut in a nearby village. He had been working on one of his weird projects."

"What was he doing? Were you able to bring him back?"

"No, I ordered my familiar to inspect him for a couple days. Just in case. I received daily reports from my familiar. He seemed to be brewing up an elixir made with strange ingredients. Last week, we took a sample and had Hanji take a look at it."

Hanji was a witch who worked with the Fuher. She has an interest of mixing potions and conducting experiments. I've heard that they were childhood friends. I heard from Oluo that Hanji lived in the basement of the castle.

"Then..? What were the results?"

"He was trying to create a concoction that could transform a vampire into a Daywalker."

"What? Why?"

Daywalkers are vampires who are able to walk during the day without getting burnt. They are easily hidden within the human race and are very rare. It can be determined whether you are a Daywalker or not by taking a special blood test.

Vampires cannot evolve into a Daywalker. It is like a immunity some vampires are born with. If one is born with the immunity, the effects of being a Daywalker occurs once a vampire reaches a certain age. The only known Daywalkers in our clan are the Fuher and Levi, the heir to the throne.

"His reasons are unknown. We were never able to find out since he died two days ago."

"W-what?" I could feel my eyes tearing up as I covered my mouth. He died?!

I can't present myself like this to the Fuher! I could hear my voice cracking as I continued to speak. "W-what was the cause of his death?"

"He was involved in some kind of riot. A mob was seen targeting a small village by the forests. Your father joined the conflict, attacking a group of Shapeshifters."

"Eh? S-shapeshifters?" I only heard about Shapeshifters in the stories my mother would tell me as a child. They were people who could transform into wild animals. Shapeshifters were a threat to the vampire race since ancient times.

There was a war between the two races over eight thousand years ago. The war ended with most of the Shapeshifters wiped out. However, there have been sightings of Shapeshifters over the past seven thousand years.
