Chapter 26 - Alternative Motives

Levi's POV

"So he's awakened, I presume?" Erwin sipped his tea as I entered his office with a frown and my arms crossed.

"You knew?"

"I suspected. That boy is interesting," he smirked, placing his cup over its matching saucer. "I may end up changing my mind about releasing him after all of this."

"Don't be foolish. A war between that clan isn't necessary." I leaned against the door and noticed a glint in Erwin's eyes.

"You look rather well, despite last nights wave," Erwin commented with a thick brow raised. "Did you finally decide to feed?"

"Of the sorts," I mumbled. "I'm just glad that it's over."

"I see," he hummed, crossing his fingers. "And your current state has nothing to do the fact that Eren's scent lingers on you?" I sent daggers at Erwin in an instant, suddenly realizing how strong Eren's scent was. "It is quite lovely; I'm just concerned as to why it's being emitted from you." Erwin's eyes were faint, but still managed to radiate a warm glow.

"Tch, that was sloppy of me."

"Quite," he agreed. "Mind explaining yourself?" Erwin spoke mockingly, but his eyes displayed intensity.

"I have nothing to explain. I'm sure you already understand the situation." I made sure to make my point by emphasizing my words and sending him a threatening glare. "Hands off the hostage."

"How can you say that with his scent coming off of you?"

"Your motives are dangerous," I hissed.

"By now, I believe my motives are the same as yours," he sneered. "Eren's something special, isn't he?"

"Being the hybrid that he is," Erwin leered. "I guess all the jokes are aside?"

"I guess we'll just have to see how this turns out," Erwin shrugged. "It may result in a battle for this new species."

"Let's hope not." I pursed my lips and slipped out into the hall, my frustration contained in my fists.

Erwin suspected, yet he chose not to inform me. I bet he told Hanji first just to get her hyped about this whole thing.  Putting the witch aside, my solid goal was to end this.

I loosened my cravat and stomped my way downstairs into Hanji's lab to get information. Once I made it in front of her quarters, I slammed the door open, only to interrupt her session with Eren.

"Levi? I'm kind of in the middle of something, would you come back later?" Hanji smiled as waved a flashlight, turning back to Eren. "Now, Eren, open wide."

As Eren opened his mouth, Hanji switched on her flashlight and made different humming noises. She flashed the light at different angles of his mouth and eventually lowered her light to write down notes.

"Hanji, I need to ask you a question. Right now," I commanded as I made my way to a wooden chair in the corner of her lab.

"As I said, I'm in the middle of something! Be patient," she sang.

"Any changes?" Eren piped up.

"Nope. Your teeth are back to normal, but I'm sure that during transformation, you'll still experience some shifting around your upper jaw." Hanji picked up her clipboard and tapped a pen against her chin. "As for your left eye... You said you had extreme pain?"

"Yes. I felt so much throbbing that I felt that my eye was about to explode..."

"I'm sure that's only because you've never shifted into your vampire form. Whenever you shapeshift, you don't think much of it since you've been doing it for awhile. Same thing; you'll get used to it eventually," Hanji grinned.
