I groaned hearing my alarm. I threw the covers off of me and sluggishly walked to the bathroom. I started the shower and brushed my teeth while I waited.
After showering I slipped on my dress and heels and grabbed my cap and gown off the back of the door. I turned the lights off and walked out of my room.
"Awww you look so pretty!" Trice smiled.
"Thank you."
"I made you breakfast and then we can go."
I sat down and quickly ate my food. Everything was good and I'm glad she cooked because I did not want to sit at this ceremony hungry.
I placed my cap and gown on the back seat and I got in the passenger seat and put my seatbelt on. Trice locked up the house and then got in the car.
"You excited?" She asked as she drove.
"I guess. I'm more so just ready for high school to be over with."
"I feel you." She nodded "Have you thought about college?"
"Not really. I still want to take a year off first."
"Well don't rush it. College isn't for everybody. Find something you love to do and you'll be fine. A lot of people go out here and get into student loan debt over a degree thinking it will secure them a job but once they have it, they can't even get a job in their field. There are plenty of successful people in the world without a college degree. Don't feel pressured to go if it's not what you truly want."
I sighed and smiled. "Thank you Trice. If only mom and dad had that thought process." I looked out the window
We pulled into the parking lot of my highschool. I grabbed my things from the back and entered the building. I walked towards the gym as I fixed my gown on myself.
"Kayla!"
I turned around to find my brother and other sister walking towards me with our mom and dad."
"Deucy pooh!" I hugged him
"Chill on the name. We're in public."
I laughed and hit his arm.
"Hey Rae." I smiled
"Hey. You look pretty."
"Thank you."
I looked up at my parents and they just stood there. "I didn't think ya'll were coming."
"We couldn't miss this." My dad smiled and walked over to hug me.
My mom didn't say anything. It was getting awkward. I spotted Dave walking in with Kairi. He was holding flowers and a balloon in one hand and Kairi's hand in his other. He let her go once he saw me and she ran over to me.
"Kay kay!" Her little arms went my neck as she hugged me
"Hey pretty girl." I picked her up
"You look beautiful." Dave kissed my cheek.
"Thank you." I blushed.
It was time for me to go and get in line. I attempted to give Kai back to Dave but she had a death grip on me.
"No!" She shook her head. "I go with her!"
"You can't. You gotta come with me so you can watch her walk across the stage." Dave spoke
"No." Her little lip quivered and her eyes got glossy
"Aww." I pouted. "Don't cry boo boo. I'll be right back, ok?"
She slowly nodded
"How about we go get ice cream when I'm done? But you have to go with daddy right now."
"Ok." She reached for Dave
"I don't know why she's so attached to you."
"Cause I'm the best." I stuck my tongue out at him.
I went over to the line and found my place. Since my last name is Carter, I was near the front.
"Your daughter is so cute." A girl in front of me spoke.
"Thanks." I smiled
We walked in and got seated. Diamond was 10 people in front of me and Mina and Zo were behind me somewhere. The principal walked out on stage and the ceremony finally began.
3 hours later
"We did it bitch!" Zo twerked as we walked out the gym.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Congratulations baby." Dave came over and quickly pecked my lips.
"Thank you." I grabbed the flowers he was holding.
I spent another 30 minutes taking pictures with everyone. My family had already left and Dave went to the car with Kairi.
Loud laughing pulled me from my conversation with Diamond and Mina. I looked over and Ming was laughing while sitting on Christian's lap.
"My right, your left." I spoke as I looked back at Diamond
"Oh wow. He bold bold. But fuck him and her. They ain't nobody."
"You right." I pointed and we began walking down the sidewalk
"We still going out to eat?" Zo asked
"Yep." I nodded
"Aye, let me talk to you for a second." Someone grabbed my arm.
I snatched away and turned around. "Bro, don't touch me." I looked up at Christian.
He sighed. "Can I talk to you please?"
"About?" I crossed my arms
"What happened between us."
"That's over with."
"I know. I just wanted to apologize for it. I know it was wrong."
"Yea it was. I already forgave you for that though. I wasn't about to walk around here being miserable over the situation. It was a life lesson learned. And honestly, I thank you for it because if it didn't happen, I probably wouldn't have the man that I do now." I smiled
"Babe, I was looking for you." Ming walked up. Her smile dropped once she saw me standing here. "Why are you talking to her?"
"Just having a conversation."
"For what though? She ain't nobody."
"You ready to go?" Dave walked up behind me.
Ming's eyes lit up as she looked at Dave. I internally laughed because this was the perfect opportunity to be petty.
"Baby." I looked up at Dave. "This girl is a huge fan." I smiled. "She made you her MCM and everything."
"Oh word. That's wassup. I appreciate the support" He nodded, not really paying attention, he was on his phone.
I looked back at her with a raised brow. "Anyway. We have to go. Nice talking to you." I grabbed Dave's hand and walked to his car.
"You aint have to do that to that girl." He laughed because he knows who Ming is.
I shrugged. "Let's go get ice cream." I spoke while getting in the car and Kai cheered.
