Kayla
"So you're stalking me now?" I shook my head and continued to grocery shop.
"I just want us to be friends again. Please." Ming followed behind me.
"I don't. That friendship ended a long time ago. Let it go. I have no interest in being friends."
"But why? Friends fight all the time."
I stopped walking and turned to face her. "What? That doesn't even make sense. You think I'm be out here fighting and arguing with someone I call a friend? No. You need to leave me alone. I'm really trying to be nice and let you go on about your business. I've gotten the calls, texts, emails, letters, all that. I do not care. At this point, you're stalking and harassing me and I know you don't want to go down that road so I suggest that you leave me alone." I smiled and walked off.
Dave
"You really got two kids out here." Shooter laughed. "Thought I'd never see the day my nigga settle down."
"Kayla is different. Real different."
"Well obviously. Yo ass getting married and shit."
I switched my son over to my other leg and wiped his face.
"Had to. I don't even look at other females the same no more. It's like they cool but they not Kayla. They could never top my baby."
"Listen to this nigga, all in love and shit." My cousin laughed
"Shut up." I laughed.
"David? Is that you I hear out here?" My aunt stepped out of the house. "Awww look at this baby. Where's Kairi?"
"She's with my mom right now. You know how much she loves her nana."
"That I do." She nodded. "I hear you getting married." She smiled
"Yes ma'am."
"Good. Maybe you can talk some sense into one of these hard heads." She smacked the back of Shooter's head then walked in the house.
"Dang auntie." Shooter rubbed his head. "You aint have to hit me like that."
"I gotta get outta here." I stood up. "I got shit to do unlike ya'll." I laughed.
"This nigga dont even be outside no more." Jonesy teased.
I shrugged. "Getting too old for that."
I placed my son in his car seat and made sure he was strapped in securely. "I'll hit ya'll up later."I got in my car and headed home. We have an appointment to taste wedding cakes today. I requested that they come to our house because things get too hectic when I go out to businesses now.
I pulled into the driveway and parked behind Kayla's car.
"We back!" I yelled as I walked into the house.
"My baby." Kayla came from the kitchen and took Grayson from me.
I watched as she kissed all over his face.
"So I'm not standing here?" I nodded and walked into the living room.
"Don't be like that." She followed behind me
"Nah." I fake sniffed. "You didn't even acknowledge me."
"You ready to try some cake?" She bounced around in my face holding our son.
"You play too much." I laughed. "I thought she would've been here by now."
"She texted me about 10 minutes ago letting me know that traffic was backed up due to an accident."
"Oh ok." I turned on the tv. "What you cooking? Something smells good."
"Baked chicken, mac and cheese, stuffing and greens."
"Can't wait to eat that."

I looked at all the the cake samples spread across the dining room table.
"So what we have are the traditional flavors. Yellow, vanilla, chocolate, red velvet and carrot. I also brought some of my top sellers. Lemon creme, butter pecan, chocolate raspberry truffle, caramel apple, salted caramel, lemon summer berry, cookies and cream, southern hazelnut, chocolate hazelnut and orange citrus."
I looked at Kayla to see which one she would pick up first. She went for the salted caramel and I did the same.
"This is good." Kay commented.
"Yea. It's not for me though." I shook my head.
Next she picked the chocolate hazelnut.
"Now this? I fuck with this." I nodded
"I bet you do." She laughed and slid that sample to the side for a possible choice.
We continued tasting until we were done. We had narrowed the choice down to the chocolate hazelnut, butter pecan and lemon summer berry.
"I feel like we could do the chocolate hazelnut and lemon because they compliment each other."
"That's a great point." Sara, the baker, commented.
"You think you smart huh?" Kayla smiled. "We can go with those two flavors. That'll be fine."
I stepped away to fix me a plate of actual food while they talked about all the other aspects of the cake.
"I'll draw up a sketch and send it to your email and we'll go from there." Sara spoke as she walked with Kayla to the front door.
I sat at the table and began eating my food, which was good as hell.
"Thank you." Kayla came over and kissed my cheek as I ate.
"What I do?" I spoke between bites.
"Showing interest in this whole process. I've just seen and heard so many stories of the man not participating and just paying for whatever."
"Yea. And thats fucked up. Putting all that stress on the wife. I mean it is my wedding too."
"You're right." She nodded but continued to look at me.
"What?"
"Nothing. I love you."
I smiled. "I love you too."
