"We have been talking about this for a while now but we never really got around to telling you."
"What is it." My parents looked at each other again. "We're getting a divorce." They said in unison.
No no no-no-no.
"What?" I said quietly letting myself drop into the chair. "Why?"
"It's just not the same anymore."
"What do you mean? I thought you guys loved each other."
"We did. But then we started working more and soon we got promotions and we didn't get to see each other as much anymore."
I shook my head. This didn't make any sense. I shot up out of my seat and faced my dad.
"You cheated on mom, didn't you! You were the one that started coming home late and missing dinner!! Not to mention always on the phone all night with your assistant!"
"That is enough."
"You always leave in the middle of the night too! You probably went to go have sex-"
There was a sharp pain on my left cheek.
I spit out blood on the floor and looked up at my father. "You asshole."
He raised his hand and slapped me again.
He slapped me so hard the second time that I fell to the floor. My mom shrieked. "Stop it, Richard!!"
"I will not be disrespected in my own home!!"
I got up from the floor and ran to my room not looking back.
In the privacy of my room, I let the hot tears that I was holding back finally fall to my face. Then I eventually fell asleep.
Knock. Knock.
I wiped my eyes as I woke up and looked at the time. 11:30.
The sound was coming from my window. I smiled the only other person who would have the guts to bother me at this time was my boyfriend Justin.
I opened my window and looked down. He was standing near his white Chevy corvette c8 in the middle of my street.
I rolled my eyes. He couldn't have been more obvious.
"Come down!" He loudly whispered. I grabbed my keys from the desktop and got ready to jump.
"Wait!" I ignored him and jumped anyway. He caught me in one swift motion and gently set me down on the seat beside him.
"You're crazy! What if I didn't catch you, my little Josie Posie?"
I waggled my eyebrows at him before taking his hand. "You always catch me."
He smiled showing his perfectly white teeth.
He took me inside of his car and of course, I Want to Hold Your Hand by the Beatles was playing. My favorite song. It's like he knew I needed to feel better. I laid on his shoulder and shut my eyes as he began to stroke my hair.
A few minutes passed before he shifted in his seat so he could face me. Justin runs his hand through his auburn locks and looks at me with heavy eyes.
"What's wrong?" I grabbed his hands and squeezed them.
"We need to break up."
You've got to be kidding me.
"What?" He pulls his hands out from my grip and sighs. His bottom lip quivered as he searched my face.
"Ok, what's really going on?"
"I can't be with you anymore."
"You're throwing away two years of our relationship? No way. What about everything we have been through? This doesn't make any sense Justin."
I fought to keep the tears in my eyes from falling. This wasn't happening.
"Tristan doesn't like the idea of us together." He wouldn't make any eye contact with me as he continued to speak.
"I don't want to do this but I have to."
"This is because of what happened today, isn't it?! Why does it matter what he says?"
"It was a hard decision to make Josie."
"I can't believe you're choosing him over me." I shut my eyes hoping this moment would go away.
Justin lifted my head up with his finger and placed a small kiss on my lips. Then on my forehead. I hugged him tight and didn't let go.
"Justin please don't do this." I squeezed him tighter inhaling the smell of his sweet expensive cologne.
He peeled me off of him and opened my door. "It's getting late. I have to go."
Hot tears trailed my face and I quickly wiped them away. I didn't want him to see me cry but I couldn't hold them back anymore.
"Justin. Please." I grabbed a hold of his arm and looked at his ocean blue eyes.
His eyes began to water but he kept a straight face. "Josephine..."
I let go and ran out of his car. I fumbled with the keys as I open the front door and collapsed on the couch.
It felt as though the tears wouldn't stop and it was hard to catch my breath. I thought after everything I would always have him.
But I was wrong.
Knock. Knock.
There was someone at the door. I quickly ran and open the door.
"Justin?!" My shoulders sunk. I really thought it was him.
There was no one there but an intricate envelope that was matte black.
I pick it up and close the door behind me. I headed back to my room already really tired and toss the envelope on my desk.
Here is the second half! Man, I love writing. Do you feel bad for Josephine? I know I do.
