Carter Williams' P.O.V
The crowd was hungry and excited. The air heavy with heat and sweat. New recruits usually were. But why did Samuel have us recruit so many? Were we creating a revolution or a war?
"Hey, Williams." I turned over my shoulder. "There's a mess out back that needs cleaning." I sighed. I walked out the back door and into the alley.
On the ground was a young woman with dark brown hair on the floor. She looked like she was in her twenties. I bent down and grabbed her wrist. I checked her pulse but just as I had suspected.
She's already dead. The small hole shaped scar that was on her neck let me know-how.
I pick her up and carry her bridal style as I head for the secret room. When I turned around I am faced with a strong big guy with strawberry blonde hair. There's a look of shock on his face and his eyes grow wide.
"Baby?"
Uh oh.
"Who are you and what did you do to my girlfriend?!"
"How about we talk inside." He ignored my reply and lunged at me going for my throat.
I ducked and kneed him in the gut in the process. I set the body down. When I wasn't looking he pulled out a knife.
Seriously?
Now I had to be careful. I paced my steps trying to figure out what would be his next move. I closed the gap between us and punched him in the face. I watched as the blood gushed from his nose and his once white teeth were stained red.
I heard footsteps and I turned around. It was Samuel. He was watching. He nodded his head at me signaling for me to kill him.
I gulped.
I faced my opponent again and kicked his knee so he lost his footing. When he dropped the knife I caught it mid-air and pressed him against the wall with my elbow. I had his hands and legs pinned so he wouldn't be able to move.
I moved the arm that was holding his knife to his neck. My hand began to shake as I pressed the blade against this neck. There was so much fear in his eyes.
Then Samuel appeared at my side and moved me over.
"Samuel wait."
Before I even had a chance to argue he smashed the guys head against the wall. There was a grunt and Samuel pulled his hair and smashed it against the wall again.
There was a trickle of sticky blood that trailed down his head. He swiftly grabbed the knife from my hands and punctured his stomach twisting the knife back and forth.
The guy coughed up blood and Samuel laughed.
The execrable actions that Samuel did leave a sickening feeling to my stomach. The guy had finally stopped coughing and was still and quiet on the floor.
"Clean up this mess Carter." I went down to pick up the body but Samuel took a hold of my left arm and tightened his grip.
He slashed the side of my ear all the way down to my neck. Taking his time.
An excruciating stinging pain quickly followed and I winced. Warmblood began to drizzle down my arm. I grunted in pain.
He pulled me close so he could whisper in my ear. "The next time I tell you to do something. You do it." He abruptly let me go and walked back into the building.
I shivered. I've seen dead bodies before from Samuel's hands but I've never seen him kill in action. He never told me that when I took this job that I had to kill anyone.
It's not like I had a choice anyway. More and more every day I hated this job. I had to find a way out. I would soon and no one would stop me. Not even him.
After I was done with disposing of the bodies I went to tend my wound. It burned but I ignored the pain. It was a nasty cut but I didn't need stitches.
I headed back into the building and into his office on the top floor. He was sitting at his desk looking at a bunch of papers. I slammed the door behind me and he looked up. Ready to address another issue at hand.
"Oh good, you're done."
"You could have killed her!"
"Who are you babbling on about?"
I gritted my teeth. "Josephine Jones."
"She was annoying. So stubborn. It isn't going to be easy for us to train her."
"Are you even listening?!"
"So I may have given her a little too much. She woke up didn't she?"
"Barely!! For heaven's sake dad!"
He rolled his eyes at me and went back to looking over the documents that were on his desk. "Can you get everything set up?"
"Dad. I'm tired of this. Aren't you too?"
"I don't have time for this. Can you please do what I asked you?"
"Think about it. It's not too late. We can still do the revolution and fight for people's rights but the right way!"
"Enough Carter."
"What would mom say if she was here right now!"
"I said ENOUGH!"
My dad was up out of his seat and in my face before I could even blink. His breath was heavy and he looked at me with hungry eyes. That was never a good sign.
But for some reason, I kept going. "She wouldn't even look at you in the face. She would leave you-"
Crack. There was a burning sensation in my nose and I groaned in reply. He grabbed my face with his right hand.
He squished my face in his hand so hard that my teeth were cutting into the inside of my cheek.
Then he forced me to look at him. "You never listen to me, Carter. I will not be disrespected by my son. Understood? Now go do what you were told."
And just like that, he let me go and went back to work. I wiped my nose, inhaling the strong smell of iron. How was I ever going to get out of this?
What do you guys think of Samuel? Let me know in the comments.
Once again I just wanted to say thank you. I hope one day that my dream will come true but I know that every day I am one step closer to it. I can just feel it you know?
