Josephine's P.O.V

"Carter? Luna? What are you guys doing here?"

Luna comes to my side and squeezes my hand for some reassurance. She purposely tries to avoid Justin's girlfriend's eyes.

But why?

"We heard so many good things about your school so Carter and I decided to transfer. And on the plus side, we get to spend more time with you. Right Carter?"

Carter wasn't listening. He was too busy glaring at Tristan to care.

"What was that you said to Josephine earlier? I couldn't quite hear." He growled.

Tristan laughed. "It's none of your damn business."

Carter pushed Tristan against the wall grabbing a fistful of his shirt. "Stay away from Josephine. If you even look in her direction I'll kill you."

When Carter let him go, Tristan swung hitting Carter in the mouth and cutting it on his ring. My heart stirred and I held my breath.

Carter touched his lip to reveal red on his fingers. He was definitely pissed now. He slammed Tristan against the lockers, getting ready to punch him when a whistle broke the commotion.

"Break it up, boys!"

The soccer coach came and pulled them away from each other. Carter came at my side apologetic. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah."

"Get to class!"

We all started to leave when the coach stopped Luna, Carter, and me. "Except you three. My office. Now!" Great. My first day back and I was already getting suspended again.

Tristan gave me a devilish smirk and walked away.

The three of us squeezed into the athletics office waiting for our punishment.

"If you could just give us a second to explain-"

The coach pointed at Carter. "Do you know how to play soccer?"

"Yeah...."

"Look...um"

"Carter. Carter Williams."

"If you play at our game this Friday and make a goal or two, I won't report you to the principal."

Carter looked at me and I just shrug my shoulders. Sounded like a good deal to me.

"Yeah sure, why not."

The coach beamed and they shook hands. "Practice starts at six."

As we walked out of his office I scoffed.

"What is it?" Luna pondered.

I sighed. "If Carter was black the coach wouldn't have hesitated to get you suspended but since you're white he offered you a free pass."

"I wouldn't really call it a free pass. I haven't played soccer in years."

"Nevermind."

"I will go back right now and refuse the offer if that's what you want me to do."

I took his hand. "Forget that I said anything. Okay? What we really should be talking about is why the two of you are at my school and not with Samuel Brown plotting your next move."

"That's the thing. This is our next move." Luna said.

I raised an eyebrow at her.

"I know. I still don't get it either."
