Luna's P.O.V
I was already inside the building and I tried to regain my memory and figure out where headquarters was from the map that they made me memorize. There weren't that many guards on the lookout but definitely more than I expected.
I made sure to be light on my feet and keep my weapons close. Right around the corner, there was a sliver door covered in what I recognized as bulletproof glass. There were two guards holding machine guns and I gulped.
That had to be the room where they were keeping all the files. It had to be their headquarters. I took a small breath and blew out some air. Streaks of red flashed then disappeared.
Lasers.
There was no way I was going to be able to knock out the guards and break inside.
The only way to get in would be up. I pressed my back against the wall and took in my surroundings. There was an air duct across from me. Not wanting to waste any more time I launched myself up to the opening and kicked it down with my foot.
It stung but the pain would subside later. It was the fastest way I could think of.
I don't even bother to put it back because I was going to be in and out. The air ducts were dusty and hot. Hot air swirled around me and I picked up my pace.
After a while, I found the opening that leads to the room. This time I opened it carefully. I took the grappling hook that was secured behind my back and latched it onto a secure place.
I held my breath. My body was an inch away from the guy that was below me. My shirt barely about to touch his head.
Hopefully, none of the workers in the control room saw my shadow. The door opened and some short stubby woman walked in wide-eyed.
Dammit. Change of plans. I swing down and grab my knife from my back pocket.
They pull out their weapons getting ready to aim at me but they are too slow. I swing the knife and it punctures all the people in the room at different angles. I hear cries as the knife pierces the flesh not missing one person.
Then the knife arrives back in my hand.
Cool.
Samuel was holding out on me. I wiped the blood off with the sleeve of my shirt.
I went to the computer and quickly broke into its barrier wall. It was complicated but I got in. I gasped. The Dark Horses were planning to attack us three days from now.
That wasn't even the worst part. After they attacked us they were going to sell us into human trafficking to make tons of money.
They even planned to murder Samuel Brown, Carter Jones, and me.
I pulled a flash drive out of my pocket and transferred the files into the hard drive.
It didn't matter whatever files they stole from us. We had to prepare for the fight that was coming to us. After I was done I destroyed all the files and the computer.
I ran out of the room through the door and headed to the nearest staircase that leads to the roof. I had completed my mission and followed orders.
But why did I feel like crap? I clicked on the earpiece that was in my ear and tried to contact Carter. No answer.
Dammit. The fool got himself caught. It was the only explanation.
That or.......
I shook my head. Now was not the time to be thinking bad thoughts but it was a possibility and my foot stirred.
I had to leave them. Samuel said that I couldn't risk having ourselves found out and not getting the files. Lives depended on it. It was the logical thing to do. It was the smart thing to do.
I could already hear footsteps approaching. Any minute now they would sound an alarm or increase security. I had to get out of here. I opened the door and raced up the stairs almost to freedom. Almost done.
My hand hesitated on the door and I froze. I knew this wasn't right. I was already wasting time just standing here. But if I left them here to suffer or worse die, what kind of person would I be?
This was wrong. My stomach twisted, warped, and flipped. Going back down to find and save them was a stupid idea.
I could risk everything that The Indomitable has ever worked for. I could be risking lives. I was risking my life.
But they are my friends. They wouldn't leave me if I needed help.
Would they?
