"Hi, baby." Max said. "Hi, Violet."
"So we're going with Violet?"
"Violet Charles-Green."
"Oh, I'm not subjecting our daughter to my shitty last name. She can have yours." I replied.
"Violet Green?"
"Yes."
"I can't believe she's gonna be here in a month." He rubbed my belly.
"Violet, you're gonna be just as pretty as me."
"I hope not."
"Why not?"
"You're fucking beautiful." Max kissed my stomach. "I don't need our daughter seducing someone when she's sixteen."
"Oh, why not?" I pouted my lip at him. "It went well for us."
"Fair. I'm gonna go grab a soda. Want anything?"
"No, I'm good. Thanks, babe."
He got up. "Okay."
I was sitting in the living room. "Hi, Violet. I can't wait for you to come. Me and your dad are gonna love you so much. And I can't wait for you to meet all your uncles, you have so many. Ronnie, Anthony, Jacky, Ryan, Derek, Monte, Craig. Craig's cleaned up his act, you'll get to meet him, and - oh!" A cramp spread throughout my stomach.
"What's wrong?" Max asked, appearing.
"I think I just had a contraction."
"She's pre." He looked at me. "And we don't have the nursery ready, and-"
"We can go to the hospital." I picked up my phone. "Ronnie."
"Hey, Ash. What's up?"
"Can you meet us at the hospital? I'm in labor."
"You're a month early."
"I know." Another contraction hit.
"Oh, shit. Okay. Yeah. I'll meet you there." He ended the call.
"Come on, we gotta go." Max said.

"I can't do it, I can't do it." I cried. "Fuck, it hurts, can I do a C-section?"
"No, honey." The nurse said. "It's safer to do a delivery."
"Goddamn!" I screamed.
"Babe, it's okay, when it's over, you'll get to see your little girl, it's not that bad." Ronnie squeezed my hand. Max was out with his mom and Ronnie's dad. He had to tell them how it was going.
"Try pushing a child through your dick!"
"Fair enough."
"Okay, Ash, on the count of three, I need you to push. One... Two... Three."
I pushed. "I can't do this. I can't! Please, someone, just give me a C-section!"
"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, and relax."
I started sobbing. "Ronnie, I can't do it."
"No, you can. Look, her head and shoulders are through, that was the hardest part. She's so pretty."
Max came in. "Is Ash okay?"
"No I'm fucking not!"
He ran over and squeezed my hand. "How's the baby, Ronnie? I'm not seeing her until Ash does."
"Head and shoulders are through." Ronnie laughed softly. "She's fucking beautiful. She has your eyes, Max. She's got Ash's hair."
I pushed again, hearing Ronnie's description of my baby girl. I wanted to see her, goddamnit. "I can't..."
"Shh, no it's okay." Max reassured me, pushing hair out of my face.
"Torso is through, you just gotta push her legs out, Ash."
"Ash, on three. One, two, three." The nurse said.
I pushed, and then suddenly the pressure was released. I heard a cry, and I relaxed. "She's so pretty." Ronnie whispered.
"Go see, Max." I pushed him over.
The umbilical cord was cut, then a nurse whisked my daughter away to weigh her, and Max followed. "God, she is beautiful. She's only five pounds."
The nurse came back, with my baby wrapped in a blanket. "Do you know her name?"
"Yeah." I took my daughter. "Violet Jane Green." I kissed her forehead. "Hi, honey."
"She's so beautiful." Max whispered, squeezing her tiny hand. "I love her. I love her so much."
"Ronnie, come here."
"I don't wanna scare her..." He mumbled.
"You're not gonna. Come here."
He shuffled over. Violet's eyes focused on him and she reached her hand out. "I think she wants you to hold her." Max said.
"Go ahead." I urged.
Ronnie hesitantly put his arms out. I put her in his arms. "Hi, Violet." He touched her small nose. "Um, I'm Uncle Ronnie. You've got a bunch more uncles that are gonna do anything for you, I promise."
"This is perfect." I whispered. "This is all I want."
"Me too." Max said, grinning.
