Abbie's POV:
i woke up that next morning feeling more groggy than ever. my eyes weren't as swollen as i thought they would be, though i couldn't help but notice the red, puffiness that surrounded them. i threw on my cute tank top with a mint sweater over it, skinny jeans, and brown flats. my makeup wasn't as good as i wanted it to be, but i couldn't care less that particular morning. two weeks prior, i had gone to the DMV and gotten my drivers license. finally my cherry red BMW was being put to use. i wasn't the best driver when i turned 16, so i studied until my 17th birthday. mom and dad were pissed that they got the car for nothing, but mom got to drive it to work a lot so it was okay.
"MASON!" i screamed for my 14 year old little brother. he came flying down the steps, his brown floppy hair going every which way.
"good God, abbie, im ready!"
"then come on!" i rolled my eyes and got in the car. he was wearing a vineyard vines shirt, khaki shorts, and sperry's.
"why're you dressing all preppy?"
"there's this new girl named gracie who's so pretty, and i overheard her talking about how she loved it when guys dressed nice." i raised and eyebrow.
"well okay." i backed down the driveway and we drove to his school. girls by the 1975 came on and we jammed out. my brother was the farthest thing from a prep, although he looked good in what he was wearing. my brother wore band t-shirts and skinny jeans with vans. not a prep at all. i dropped him out at the middle school, and he went up to a blonde headed girl who had perfectly straight teeth and was a total prep. she was with the little sisters of some of the girls who despised me at my school for being different and liking things other than what they liked. he was trying to be slick but tripped and almost fell on his face. that's my brother.
i arrived at my school 20 minutes later. as i was walking in someone bumped me in the shoulder.
"oh im s-" i stopped mid-sentence. it was hayes. he looked so sad. "are you okay?"
"what's it matter to you?" he looked at me for a second, then walked off.
i got to my locker and Gilinsky was standing there. he kissed me and i jerked back in disgust.
"feeling better, gorgeous?" he smirked.
"queasy, thanks." i slammed my locker and walked off.
the first four periods went by so slow. i was daydreaming in 5th period when mrs jenkins called my name.
"huh, ma'am?"
"will you take this to the office?" i got up and retrieved the paper from her fragile, wrinkled hands. she smiled at me and i grinned slightly. i walked out and into the empty hallway. i was looking down at my shoes when something almost knocked me off my feet.
"oh excus-" i looked up to see him. his dark hair shaded his sad, blue eyes. they twinkled like stars. we made eye contact for about 30
seconds.
"what?" he mumbled.
"im sorry. you just look sad." i said.
"well you should know." he spat.
"look, hayes. im sorry, okay? i didn't want to screw everything up but you just-"
"did you take my letters?"
"uhh.." i didn't know what to say.
"did you take my letters?" his voice got louder.
"yes. skylynn showed me them. and hayes, i didn't know you felt that way." i fluttered my eyelashes.
"well i do. you crushed me, okay? those letters were meant for me and my eyes only."
"im sorry. i miss you so much." he hugged me tight to his warm body.
"baby girl, i miss you too." he kissed me softly. and that's when the door came flying open, and gilinsky stood there frozen.
