Chapter 19

It had been only 20 minutes and that bottle of vodka only had a quarter left in. Alec sat on the couch wallowing away hugging the bottle like it was the only thing he had in his life. He certainly felt that way. Couple of minutes later in came Izzy, she walked into the living room looked at her drunken brother then at the bottle and sighed. "Alec what happened?" She asked "and what makes you think something happened. Maybe I just want a drink" he said with eyebrows raised. "Well I happen to know that, that particular drink is the drink you save for heartbreaks. So I'm guessing something happened with Magnus?" Alec looked at her confused "I have no idea who you mean I don't know a Magnus" he said still hugging the bottle tightly. "I'm not going to entertain you with this little game of yours Alec. Now give me the bottle!" She demanded with her hand held out. Alec held it defensively "no! It's mine and mine it shall stay" Alec said stumbling over every word. He stood up but completely lost balance and fell nearly hitting his head of the glass coffee table. Izzy watched him fall as if it was slow motion but didn't move a muscle to motion towards him, she just stood in the middle of the room with her arms crossed across her chest glaring at her brother. Alec then tried again to stand up and managed it with the assistance of the wall. "Look Isabelle I appreciate it that you want to help me but you need to let happen whatever's gonna happen to me and I think you should leave" he said and pointed towards the door while stumbling backwards and towards. Izzy looked at Alec hurt and stunned "you want me to leave you in this state. No! Not happening I'm your sister and the only family that wants something to do with you! You aren't going to push me away!" Izzy shouted at him with tears rolling down her cheeks. Alec sighed; giving up and fell back on the the couch taking another swing of the vodka "fine! But I'm still drinking" she then walked to stand in front of him still with her arms crossed. "Do you want to land yourself in hospital again due to your consumption of alcohol. Do I NEED to remind you that you almost died last time?!" She said but whispering the last bit "maybe I should've!" He spat at her and Izzy gasped and before she could control herself she swung her arm and slapped him across the face send him unconscious.

Alec woke up the next morning with a massive headache; effects of the hangover he was currently experiencing, still on the couch but now he had a blanket over him. He slowed sat up and some memories of the night before started to come back but he still couldn't remember everything. He look towards the coffee table and saw some tablets, orange juice and a note. He picked the note up and it read 'Alec, I've just popped out I'll be back at about half 10 so don't worry about me but when I get back we NEED TO TALK. There's a drink and tablets for the hangover you will no doubt have. Love you, Izzy xx' Alec put the note down picked up the tablets and drink and consumed them then picked the note back up and was just staring at the words 'NEED TO TALK' he knew it serious as it was in capitals she never wrote in capitals unless it was serious and now Alec was starting to get a little scared of this talk now. Alec looked up at the clock and as if by coincidence the door open on exactly 10:30am but of course it wasn't coincidence because Isabelle had the best sense of time that a person could have. As she walked in the living she looked at Alec who was sat on the sofa a glass of orange juice in his hand, his head down and a look of shame and fear all across his face and suddenly all the rage of the night before had gone and her face softened as she looked at her brother. She walked over, sat next to him and placed her hand on his back and rubbed softly. He looked up at her sadly "Alec. You know we need to talk about what happened last night" she said gently Alec nodded "what you did last night getting that drunk whatever happened between you and Magnus you didn't need to get that drunk Alec. It was dangerous. If you ended yourself in hospital again and something happened I couldn't live with that. I've never hit you Alec but last night you drove me to do just that, you drove me to slap you. Just so you would stop. Do you know what drove me to that?" Alec shook his head Izzy continued "I asked you if I needed to remind you that the last time you drank so much you nearly died and you said maybe I should've" Izzy whispered close to tears. Alec's head snapped up to looked at Izzy with a look of shock on his face not believing that he actually said that. "Omg Iz I'm so sorry. You must know I don't really think that. Yesterday me and Magnus broke up and I was heartbroken; I still am. I was heartbroken and you weren't here and I needed something to take the pain away. If I died it would break you I know it would and I would never want to be cause of that much pain for you" he told her with tears now brimming his eyes. "Oh Alec" and they embraced each other into a hug "I know you didn't mean I just- I was so hurt when you said it I couldn't control myself and I slapped you. I'm sorry" they separated and Alec shook his head "no don't apologise I deserved the slap. And before you ask to talk about Magnus I don't want to talk about it yet. Let me process it myself and get over this hangover. I will talk to you though Iz" he said looking at her with a brotherly love. She nodded "I know I wasn't going to push you anyway Alec" she said smiling at him. Izzy got up and started to walk out of the room when Alec called her "Izzy?" She turned "thank you. For looking out for me" she nodded "of course" and they smiled at each other.
