The One That Got Away

Chapter 22

It had been 10 minutes since Cat had left and Alec had promised her that he would stay out of reach of Camille. He had to for the sake of Magnus. The door opened causing Alec to jump slightly. "Hey Alec. You okay? You look pale. Was it that women what did she say?!" It was just Izzy Alec thought thankfully. Alec shook his head "it was just about Magnus I ask her to let me know how he was doing" he lied. He hated lying to his sister but it was necessary she couldn't know the truth. Never. Izzy walked up to him and rubbed his arm "Alec you need to get over him" she said carefully and cautiously. Alec looked at her wide eyed not believing what she has just said, he shrugged out of her grip "just 'get over him' you think it's that easy for me?! I loved him Izzy! I'm not like you I don't have flings and one night stands. I've only had a few relationships and I've never felt about any of them, how I feel about Magnus you don't understand!" Alec snapped at her and ran up stairs slammed his door shut and locked it. He was pacing around his room, anger brewing inside him. Then the realisation hit him that Isabelle was right and Alec may just have to get over Magnus however hard it would be he would have to do it. This thought along with everything else that happened recently; the break up, Camille still wanting him dead and having to keep it from Magnus all was just too overwhelming for Alec to handle. He staggered back till he reached his bed and flopped himself onto it and crawled himself it a ball as small as he possible could and started sobbing and crying uncontrollably. He wasn't sure how long this went on for but suddenly Izzy was by his side hugging him, soothing him. They both lay down and Alec soon fell into a troublesome sleep in his sisters arms.

The brother and sister had been lying there for about half an hour now Alec was still sleeping in Izzy's arms and it gave Izzy a feeling of nostalgia. The memory of her childhood when she constantly had nightmares and Alec being the caring big brother he always has been would comfort her and now she was able to repay him back and be there for him when he needed her.

*FLASHBACK*
Izzy was asleep being shaken awake by Alec who himself had been woken up by load screams and shouts of "NO!" That was unmistakably Izzy having nightmares like she did most nights. Alec was sat on Izzy's bed shaking his 8 year old sister awake. Even at the age of 10 Alec was the most caring person Izzy had ever known and would do no one wrong no matter what they did to him. Eventually he was able to wake up his sister, when she woke she realised that she was shaking and sweat was dripping all down her back and face. She looked up at her brother who was rubbing her back to calm her down "anothing bad dream?" He asked as softly as he could manage. Izzy just nodded scared that if she spoke she would burst into tears, Alec went to stand up but was stopped by the tiny voice behind him that spoke "stay?" Izzy asked her voice cracking. Alec knelt down so he was eye level with her, he grabbed her tiny hands "I'm just going to get you some water than I will stay with for as long as you need me. Okay?" Izzy nodded "I'll always need you" she said as Alec was walking into her personal bathroom. He came back into the bedroom with a cup of water, he sat on the bed and handed her the cup which she took a mouthful of and handed it back to him who placed it on the bedside table. He then laid back and opened his arms her, Izzy looked at him with love and jumped into his arms hugging snuggling into his chest they stayed there with Izzy hugging Alec and Alec soothing Izzy's hair while she feel asleep; they stayed like that all night as Alec also fell asleep not having the heart to move.
*END OF FLASHBACK*

Izzy was brought back to reality by a shaking Alec, his eyes were moving fast under his eyelids clear that he was having a nightmare. Izzy woke him "hey hey Alec it's okay. It's just bad dream I'm here" she said softly calming him down. Alec looked up at Izzy while sitting up "hey do you remember when we were kids and you were having nightmares?" Izzy just nodded "and I told you that I would stay with you for as long as you would need me. I just want you to know I heard you. I heard you say you'll always need me" he said with soft eyes remembering the memory. Izzy looked at Alec stunned then looked down at her lap "you heard that" Alec grabbed her hand like he did when they were children, he nodded "I did I still stick by my word. I will be here for you for as long as you need me"he told her softly. Izzy looked at their hands together smiled and looked up at Alec with tears in her eyes and pulled him into a hug "and like I said I will always need my big brother"
