Evan felt his heart drop. This particular poem was very different from the posts the poet had posted in the last couple weeks. Something felt... off, although, he didn't know why. He felt his hands start to sweat, his grip on his phone tightening.
people and pills—
He reread the poem over and over, attempting to grasp the message behind it. His brain fuzzy with panic that arose out of no where, Evan struggled to comprehend it.
if i went to sleep for a very long time—
Stress made Evan panic. Panic made Evan think slower. Slowness made Evan stressed. It was a never-ending cycle that happened every day. It worsened during certain situations, but it was still tiring to live with just the mild, day-to-day version.
goodbye—
It's not like Evan hadn't felt this overwhelming kind of fear before. In fact, he used to often suddenly break into frequent panic attacks so bad that his body felt both hot and cold, his face and hands felt numb, and he'd rush to the bathroom to vomit into the toilet. They didn't happen as much anymore, but still occurred on occasion.

It all clicked.
Evan's mouth fell slack in horror, and his body shook with a panicked fear. He internally screamed at his fingers to move—to do something. He couldn't move them. Evan was frozen.
Stress. Panic. Slow.
His heart thumped loudly in his chest, the beat drumming like a crackling wildfire in Evan's ears. The hammering in his chest was enough to snap Evan back to life. He jerked up in his bed and quickly swiped an arm over his eyes, smearing his tears.
Still shaking, Evan tapped into his direct messages, typing in his poet's username.
