They say that all stories have a beginning. Well, I guess that mine starts in a rough way.
It's my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend, Brandon. I loved him so much. Keyword, love. Let's just say, that love's long lost. And never coming back. It was lost the moment I walked in the front door. I had gone out shopping, picking up the essentials for a good anniversary dinner. Brandon wasn't one for doing big events in public places, so we decided that holidays and events were to be done in the house. Nothing was lost for me, it was cheaper and I hated being embarrassed in front of people. People singing happy birthday to me in restaurants was something I hated.
Well, let's just say, Brandon decided that somebody else was joining in on the anniversary celebration - and they started without me.
I slowly placed the groceries down onto the kitchen island, in efforts to not alert the two to my entrance. Clothing was scattered around the house, a shirt there, shorts there. A bra that was definitely not mine. I walked closer to Brandon and my bedroom, hearing the sounds of him and another woman grow louder. I walk into the doorway, seeing him.
And the next door neighbor. The girl I told him that I wasn't comfortable with. It always happens that way, doesn't it? The girl they say is "just a friend". They just forget to leave out the "benefits" part.
I make a small noise in my throat, alerting the two of my presence. Brandon struggles with his words before gasping. "Emily, I didn't know you were coming home so soon!"
"Apparently. Hello, Sabrina." I growl out, feeling my body get hotter.
"Emily...um...are you okay? I'm so sorry." Brandon says, getting up quickly. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My eyes are glowing. Well, my entire body is glowing. My hands turn to fists as I look back at the excuse of a man in front of me. "Emily?"
"What do you want me to say? Congratulations, Sabrina. You have yourself a real sorry excuse of a man. Brandon, I want you gone." He looks at me in surprise. "What did you expect? Me to say "oh my gosh, Brandon! I still love you! I forrrgive you!"? NO. I want you and your little girl there to get out of my house." When they didn't move, I finally snapped. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE." I threw something at the wall, it crashing against the lamp on the bedside table. I didn't even realize that I was carrying something still. Both of them rush out, grabbing their scattered clothes and leaving with a door slam.
Happy first anniversary to you, Emily. A waste of a year.
I have a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like the time that I went to Disneyland and happened to be on the roller coaster that was stuck upside down for 4 hours. Or the time that I went rollerskating and got partially ran over by a Zamboni. I didn't even know that those worked on rollerskating rinks. This time, it was the time that I ran out of sugar and ended up having to run to the convenience store a block from the house. And it happened to get robbed while I was stuck inside.
There was two options I could do. One: I could sit down like a good little hostage and keep my body bullet hole -free. Or two: somehow manage to make my body glow and do whatever I did and catch these lowlifes.
"You, come here!" One of them yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked up, seeing one of them staring at me through the little holes in his mask. Well shit, I guess the decision is made. I get up slowly and walked towards the man, who promptly put a gun against my head. "I want you to put the money in the bag."
"This money?" I say, pointing at the money on the counter in front of me. "In this bag?" I point at the bag, too. Every sentence I say, I glow a little brighter.
"Yo boss, something's up with her." I hear another one of the perps say. "She's glowing."
The main boss seems to tense up at that before he turns me around, noticing the clear blue glow of my eyes. Clearly he doesn't like his discovery, because he backs up slowly. "Who - what are you?"
"Who are you?" I say before punching him square in the face, knocking him out cold. Damn, am I strong too? Fuck, I have to experiment with these powers more. I turn around, throwing a ball of light at the other guys, knocking the guns out of their hands before I run in and take care of them too. Think Emily, think. You have 3 robbers. You don't need them to get away. Especially with your cover blown like this. You look at the guy at the cash register, smiling a sweet smile at him. "Hey honey, you don't happen to have any rope, do you?"
Three packages of rope and a roll of duct tape later, we successfully have three captured robbers. I look over at the register guy and let out a little laugh. "Welp, its about time that I get out of here. You can call the cops for these guys now. Just do me a little favor. Leave me out of it. I don't need my face plastered on the news for this." I grab a bag of sugar and walk towards the door. "See ya, man." I walk out of the store before speed-walking back to my apartment, locking the door behind me.
Guess you're the neighborhood Spiderman now, Emily. Except its light instead of spiders. And I'm a girl.
The sound of sirens sound through the air - probably on their way to the store. I really hope that he leaves me out of it. Because if he doesn't, it's going to be really bad for me.
